Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint substantive consultant psychiatrists to its General Adult Inpatient Service in Tameside. The posts have been developed following a redesign of services from a sectorised model to an inpatient/outpatient model. The post holder will provide consultant leadership for patients admitted to one of the acute working-age wards at the Mental Health Unit, Tameside General Hospital.

The focus of the role is to deliver high-quality, safe, trauma-informed inpatient psychiatric care while contributing to multidisciplinary leadership, service development, quality improvement, teaching and governance.

### Main duties of the job

- Provide consultant psychiatrist leadership for one acute working-age inpatient ward at Tameside.
- Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, risk assessment and formulation for patients admitted to the ward.
- Lead treatment planning and review, including pharmacological, psychological, social and legal aspects of care, using a bio-psycho-social approach.
- Act as Responsible Clinician where appropriate and fulfil duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Lead and participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary reviews, Mental Health Act work, urgent assessments and discharge planning.
- Work collaboratively with the ward MDT, crisis/home treatment, liaison psychiatry, CMHTs, primary care and relevant partner agencies to support safe admission avoidance, inpatient care and discharge pathways.
- Provide timely clinical advice to colleagues and contribute to the safe and effective functioning of the inpatient service.
- Contribute to service evaluation, audit, quality improvement and accreditation activity in line with local and Trust priorities.

**Essential**

- Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence, or can demonstrate an effective alternative means of meeting the travel requirements of the post.

### Eligibility

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration with licence to practise at the time of appointment; included on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry or within six months of eligibility; Approved Clinician status or eligibility to achieve this within three months; Section 12 approval or eligibility to achieve this within three months; good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification; MRCPsych or equivalent psychiatric qualification.

**Desirable**

- Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research, leadership or management.

### Academic skills and lifelong learning

**Essential**

- Able to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training; able to work in and lead teams; demonstrates commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working; evidence of ongoing CPD; participation in research or service evaluation; able to use and appraise clinical evidence; active participation in audit and quality improvement.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of planning and delivering teaching relevant to the post; reflection on CPD undertaken; experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation; achievements in education, research, audit or service improvement such as presentations, publications, prizes or awards; evidence of leading audit resulting in service change or improved outcomes.

### Clinical skills, knowledge and experience

**Essential**

- Excellent knowledge in the specialty; excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and broad medical knowledge; excellent oral and written communication skills in English; able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty; makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others; able to fulfil duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
