Consultant Psychiatrist - 10PAs

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join the newly developed low secure forensic learning disability service based on Turner ward, Shaftesbury Clinic, South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust. The forensic service sits within the Specialist Service Line of the Trust.

The service is a provider within the South London Mental Health and Community Partnership (SLP) Forensic Provider Collaborative (PC). The SLP Forensic PC’s overarching goals centre on bringing care closer to home, improving patient pathways and outcomes by delivering excellent care in better environments.

The SLP has a track record of delivering highly effective, clinically informed service developments across the Pathways within the Forensic PC.

The post holder will be joining a skilled, motivated and innovative multidisciplinary team committed to continual learning and development and will be offered excellent CPD opportunities.

We are looking for a consultant with the interest and skills in providing strong medical leadership to take our services forward. The role is being offered on a permanent basis, alongside a tailored management leadership programme for those individuals who would be interested in pursuing this. Additionally, we offer a number of enhanced benefits, including a relocation package available - Up to £8,000 relocation package available *terms and conditions apply*

### Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide medical leadership to the team on Turner LDA ward a 12-bedded low secure ward within the new Shaftesbury building in Springfield Hospital. The Consultant will work closely with the ward manager and the wider service to ensure safe, efficient and effective service delivery that meets the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators and the SLP Forensic PC objectives.

From January 2022 this unit will be housed in a state-of-the-art new secure building on the Springfield Hospital site. The ward has been suitably adapted to provide the optimal environment in which to deliver care and treatment to patients with intellectual (learning) disabilities who may also have Autism. The service is provided by a full specialist multidisciplinary team equipped to effectively assess and treat coexisting mental disorders in this group and to provide appropriate therapies.

The Consultant will carry overall responsibility for the day-to-day clinical care, risk assessment, risk management, treatment and rehabilitation focused care delivered by the Team. Where problems arise, the Consultant will be afforded robust support by the service Matron, Associate Clinical Director, the Clinical Director and where necessary the Medical Director and Chief Executive

## Person Specification

### TEACHING

**Essential**

- Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatry

**Desirable**

- Teaching Qualification Evidence of feedback good from students

### QUALIFICATIONS

**Essential**

- Primary Medical degree
- Full GMC registration
- MRCPsych, or equivalent. Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Forensic or Learning Disability Psychiatry or eligible for such inclusion on the Specialist Registrar within three months of completing their CCT.
- Section 12 (2) approval of the Mental Health Act
- Approved Clinician status as well as S12 approval.

**Desirable**

- Qualifications in change management and service development skills

### AUDIT AND MANAGEMENT

**Essential**

- Commitment to developing practice through clinical audit and/or research
- Commitment to working with allied agencies including carer’s groups, and local charities.

**Desirable**

- Experience of service planning and development
- Experience of working with third sector partners

### KNOWLEDGE: & EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Completed minimum of three years full time training in approved higher psychiatric training scheme.
- A detailed knowledge of main treatment approaches for intellectual disabilities and autism,  risk assessment and risk management, interface with the Criminal Justice system and forensic inpatient settings.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and experience of the ICETR process. Experience of teaching medical and non-medical staff, including those who may not have a formal qualification

### RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS

**Essential**

- Evidence of participation in research, and outcomes of studies

**Desirable**

- Higher degree in research
- Completion of a research project and evidence of it’s dissemination
- Publication in a peer reviewed journal
