We are looking to appoint a Cellular Pathology Consultant to join our friendly, well-established team.

Applicants should have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT or equivalent date in Histopathology within 6 months of the date of interview.

All reporting specialties will be considered however we are looking for candidates who have a keen interest in Gynae  and Dermatopathology

### Main duties of the job

The BCPS Cellular Pathology service is a fully consolidated service with the hub laboratory at Wolverhampton and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) at the other sites. The only cellular pathology service provided at the ESLs is a frozen section facility. The combined surgical pathology workload for BCPS is anticipated to be approximately 92,000 surgical pathology requests per annum. The successful candidate will be based at the hub laboratory at the New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, but will be responsible for all relevant cellular pathology material for the whole BCPS (from all 4 trusts).

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

PRINCIPLE DUTIES OF THE POST

- To provide and develop with Consultant colleagues, a comprehensive Histopathology / Cytopathology / Andrology / post mortem examination service for the Trust and to collaborate with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care, where appropriate, to achieve an integrated service for patients.

- To develop such special skills and interests appropriate to the agreed overall development of the department.

- To provide specialist advice and skills training to colleagues from other disciplines as required for the optimum delivery of patient care.

- To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in multidisciplinary meetings and other postgraduate meetings.

- To take joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of training posts in the department.

- To demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit – this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.

- To take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

- To participate in the management of service within Cellular Pathology and where appropriate within BCPS.

- To develop and maintain good communications with General Medical (and Dental) Practitioners and appropriate outside agencies.

- To ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own continued professional development and participating in the Trusts Performance Review.

- To participate in relevant Regional and National EQA Schemes.

- To participate in annual appraisals and Job Plan review.

- As a team member with the present Consultants to operate a system of cover for annual, study and professional leave.

- To deputise for absent colleagues, as far as is practicable.

To maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Higher Level (or equivalent) training in Histopathology, Cytology and post mortems
- Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team and maintain good relations with contacts
