Consultant Cardiologist: With special expertise in Coronary Intervention

We wish to appoint a Consultant Cardiologist to join our coronary interventional team. This is a very exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced colleague to join a large PCI service, delivering over 1700 interventions per year, including PPCI. They will undertake on-call duties in PCI and provide expertise in coronary intervention. They will also be expected to take part in the management of patients with non-coronary problems covering all aspects of Cardiology. The job plan is for 10 Pas, but additional Pas will be available for cross cover and these can be job planned on an annualised basis.

### Main duties of the job

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) serves a population of approximately 850,000 with a PPCI catchment population of over 1 million.

NNUH is a 1200 bedded multidisciplinary teaching hospital with the full range of medical, surgical, obstetric and diagnostic services. The cardiology department includes 22 consultants with specialist interests including adult congenital heart disease, cardiac rhythm management, including electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, coronary disease and intervention, heart failure, inherited cardiac conditions, maternal cardiology, valve disease and pulmonary hypertension. Two academic consultants have joint appointments with the University of East Anglia Medical School.

This is a 10 PA post, but a candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties as described will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed, the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

### Aptitudes

**Essential**

- Independent PCI operator able to undertake complex PCI and PPCI.
- Good communicator.
- Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.
- Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

**Desirable**

- PCI fellowship Advanced PCI techniques, such as Rotational Atherectomy or CTO
- Previous responsibility for service improvement.
- Management skills
- Research skills

### Interests

**Essential**

- Commitment to develop an appropriate special interest

### Experience

**Essential**

- Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty

**Desirable**

- Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest

### Circumstances

**Essential**

- Flexible outlook on working hours.
- For on-call purposes must be within 30 mins or 15 miles of the hospital
- Ability to travel across multi-sites whilst public transport may not be available.

### Qualifications

- Full GMC Registration.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register Via;
- CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
- CESR or
- European Community Rights

**Desirable**

- MD/PhD

- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in pathology and support staff.
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries.
