### Job overview

Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in Coronary Intervention. The post holder will be working at the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).  They will participate in all the activities of a busy cardiac Department and contribute to the expansion of the current Cardiology service.

The post involves supporting the primary angioplasty service based at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT).

The job will include supporting professional activities of revalidation and education.

Please note JD is pending RC approval

### Main duties of the job

Total 10 PAs to include:

- 2 Out-patient clinics (5 new patients, 7 follow up)
- Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (QEH) – This will consist of lab sessions (2 sessions per week and providing cross-cover)
- 7 sessions per year -  Cardiologist of the Week
- Supporting Professional Activities
- Administration

Cardiologist of the Week (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday).

- Review of in-patients including on Cardiac Ward (including CCU patients)
- Daily AMU/A&E and ward new patient referral rounds
- Telephone advice via Consultant-Connect to local General Practitioners
- Coronary intervention on-call (Currently 1 in 10) at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

There is no on-call commitment or weekend work at QEH although it is envisaged that a weekend rota will be introduced with allocation of PAs and time off in lieu as appropriate. Out of hours support is provided by Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Trust.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director, on behalf of the Medical Director, three months after the commencement date of the appointee.

The Job Plan will then be reviewed annually, following the Appraisal Meeting. This will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year.  It should cover a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, providing a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. It should include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives, and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives. The annual appraisal process will inform the revalidation process.

The job plan will schedule details of the clinical activity and clinically related activity components of the job plan which occur at regular times in the week.  Agreement should be reached between the appointee and their Clinical Director with regard to the scheduling of all other activities, including the Supporting Professional Activities.

### IT Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to use Microsoft office packages, e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint.
- Ability to use patient information systems

### Clinical Audit

**Essential**

- Active audit interest demonstrated by at least one completed clinical audit in the last 12 months.
- Understanding of NHS systems and audit processes
- Evidence of service improvement projects and audits

**Desirable**

- Publication of audit results.
- Evidence of embedding governance processes to monitor outcomes, safety, and service performance

### Programme Delivery

**Essential**

- Strong commitment to delivering change and high performance through effective collaboration with management and clinical teams
- Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them
- Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.
- Experience in conducting and supporting audits, improvement and service transformation projects

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of national targets linked to the NHS performance
- Experience using clinical data, benchmarking, and audit findings to drive improvements and reduce unwarranted variation

### Teaching Experience

**Essential**

- Experience and interest in undergraduate teaching
- Skill and ability in formal and informal teaching for both under/postgraduate students and nursing/midwifery staff
- Educational supervision accreditation

**Desirable**

- An understanding of current issues in medical education and training
- Previous experience in trainee Supervision
- Higher teaching qualification
- Presentations at National or International meetings
- Publications in peer reviewed journals

### Management and Administrative Experience

**Essential**

- Understands the management structure of the NHS
