Applications are invited for a Consultant in Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist with the role being located within the Cardiology Department at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust and also at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The post holder along with their fellow Consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Cardiology service to the Trust and the local community, a 24/7 cardiology On-Call service which requires a 1 in 6 commitment and will contribute to the provision of a Dorset wide Electrophysiology service.

The post holder will have been extensively trained in clinical Electrophysiology and will be a third Cardiologist implanting complex devices at DCH. In their capacity as visiting Consultant, there will be one day/week of procedural Electrophysiology at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where the Dorset Electrophysiology service is based. In addition to Electrophysiology, the post holder will also undertake Ablation at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The postholder will lead the Arrhythmia service at Dorset County Hospital, providing Arrhythmia specialist opinions with dedicated Arrhythmia clinics. Additionally there is a regular devices MDT which the post holder will chair. The post will also entail supporting the pacing and complex devise service at Dorset County Hospital.

### Main duties of the job

This is a substantive, full time (11 PA) post based at Dorset County Hospital with EP & Ablation sessions at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. This is a replacement post.

The post holder, with their 6 Consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Cardiology service to the Trust and the local community, a 24/7 cardiology On- Call service and will contribute to the provision of a Dorset wide Electrophysiology service.

The post holder will have been extensively trained in clinical Electrophysiology and will be a third Cardiologist implanting complex devices at DCH. There will be one day/week of procedural Electrophysiology at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where the Dorset EP service is based. The post requires a 1 in 6 commitment to a general Cardiology on-call rota.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The postholder will lead the arrhythmia service at Dorset County Hospital, providing arrhythmia specialist opinions with dedicated arrhythmia clinics. The postholder will also support the pacing and complex device service at DCH. As a visiting consultant the postholder will undertake EP and ablation at University Hospitals Dorset (Royal Bournemouth site).

### University Hospitals Dorset (Royal Bournemouth Hospital) EP Service

The post holder will work with the 4 Electrophysiologists based at the Dorset Heart Centre, and the other visiting Electrophysiologist (based at Salisbury District Hospital). There are also 2 EP fellows, 5 arrhythmia nurses in addition to the cardiology junior doctors and physiologists who together all make up the EP team.

The busy EP service covers Dorset, and adjacent parts of Hampshire and Wiltshire with a catchment of approx. 1 million. In 2021/22 707 EP & ablation procedures were performed. The EP labs have LabSystem Pro EP recording systems (Boston), Carto 3, and EnSite mapping systems with image integration of CT or MRI scans. Additionally, we use Cryoablation (Arctic Front) and Pulsed Field Ablation.

In accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service, the successful candidate will be appointed to a 11 PA clinical contract with 9.5 PAs of direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity. Further sessions of direct clinical care may be available to the successful applicant by mutual agreement with the Trust.

The on call commitment is band A and attracts a supplement of 5% of total annual salary.

The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity of continuing professional development, including training in non-clinical aspects of the post. He/she will take responsibility for advising, counselling and agreeing training and development plans for junior medical staff and will be expected to participate in the training of junior medical staff as laid down in the Trust Education Contract.

The Cardiology department has six weekly clinical governance meetings. The appointee will be expected to participate in clinical audit, with the support of the trust audit department. They will be responsible for input of their cases into the national cardiac databases and accurate follow up of any complications.

The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the Departmental Audit meetings with audit projects they have initiated and registered on the trust audit database. Time and facilities will be made available for clinical governance and audit.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- At least 7 years clinical experience in Cardiology at SHO and SPR level or equivalent
- Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant
- Experience in a special interest that will complement those existing in the department
- Invasive EP procedures to include EP study, AV node ablation and VT ablation. Device implantation to include complex devices
- Experience in the use of multiple PFA systems
- Independence in complex pacing including conduction system pacing

### Skills and Abilities

- Willingness and ability to fulfil the general service elements of the job description
- Evidence of the clinical skills required to fulfil the specialty and sub-specialty elements of the job as in the job description and technical specification
- Up to date devices accreditation (ie BHRS or IBHRE)
