## Job Content

### Job overview

Applications are invited for a full-time Generalist Consultant Anaesthetist to join a large active department which has scope for accommodating a range of subspecialist skills, the ideal candidate would improve service resilience by offering completed subspecialist training in intensive care and be able to support one or more of the specialist services the Trust provides including anaesthesia for adult scoliosis surgery or head and neck cancer surgery.

We welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Additionally, people with disabilities will be offered an interview providing they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The Trust operates job share and flexible working.

The James Paget University Hospital, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn are now working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group.

All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as our future models of care are developed by our clinically led networks through our acute clinical strategy. Some of the clinical procedures or services the appointee will be expected to deliver may be based at sites other than their primary site of employment.

### Main duties of the job

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. The appointee will take his/her share of clinical responsibilities within the Anaesthetic Department. This will include provision for peri-operative assessment clinics where required.

In addition to duties within subspeciality, the appointee will be required to provide anaesthesia for adult patients in all specialties as appropriate to his/her training and experience.

There is an on-call commitment of approximately 1:20, providing cover for the emergency on call work. A separate consultant on-call rota exists for paediatric anaesthesia, weekend and bank holiday day trauma theatres, intensive care medicine and obstetric anaesthesia.

All postholders, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance program. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
