We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic person to join our Community Phlebotomy Team. No previous experience needed; all training will be provided. You will be fully developed, providing you an opportunity to jump start your career in healthcare. Flexible hours and job share available’

### Main duties of the job

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Please confirm in your application that you meet the specified criteria.

The primary activity for this role will be supporting service users with their physical health needs including venepuncture, taking Blood Pressure, weight and height and other tasks as required. This will require working across several neighbourhood teams within Cambridge and Ely.

The post holder will provide support and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting. They will undertake assigned tasks as a lone worker but with support from a registered nurse, including assisting in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.

The post holder will be trained to ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To undertake phlebotomy and physical health tasks e.g weight, physiological observations under delegation from a registered professional.
- Overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patients’ with hearing or cognitive impairment.
- Communicate with patients/carers by exchanging factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy.
- Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, patients, carers and other health care professionals.Be responsible for ensuring equipment is used safely, following relevant training, and that it is maintained appropriately.
- Work under guidance on specified tasks, taking direction from registered and non-registered staff as appropriate, with regular clinical support and supervision by a qualified practitioner.
- Will be exposed to bodily fluids, infected material, blood products, therefore must utilise universal precautions and adhere to infection control policies.
- To assist in the implementation of audit processes under direction from registered staff.

- Basic understanding of legislation relating to care including – Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Act, Children’s Act, Equality Act 2010, Health and Safety Act and the Data Protection Act
- Knowledge of NICE guidance.

### Education / Qualifications

- Educated to GCE/GCSE (Maths and English) or equivalent.

**Desirable**

- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. Or Care Certificate
- Training relating to ward specialism
