An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual with an interest within Community Infection Prevention and Control  to join our team.

The aim of the Community Infection, Prevention and Control team (CIPC) is to provide specialist preventative infection prevention and control support, advice, guidance, workforce development, plus reactive outbreak management and response to a range of settings including care homes, schools, early years, family hubs and supported living plus other services that support where the most vulnerable live and learn.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a Nurse Specialist and contribute to an effective and efficient service for the prevention, surveillance, and control of infections within community / OOH settings. They will be a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team providing advice, guidance, and support to settings within the community.

The post encompasses a significant level of nursing education, training, and leadership responsibilities within the Trust.

The post holder will work effectively as an autonomous practitioner in line with the application of Trust IPC policies and be supported by the wider IPC Team.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Act as a member of the IPC Team to provide advice to community settings relating to prevention, surveillance, and control of infection working both proactively and reactively with settings and with senior members of the team.

Participate in the update of policies/ protocols as and when necessary, in conjunction with the Senior Health Protection Specialist Practitioner, which may impact on the prevention and control of infection across a range of settings.

To provide IPC advice and support to incidents and outbreaks of communicable diseases in line with the Wigan Borough Outbreak Plan.

To support Community/ OOH settings and advise on the management of infection control incidents and outbreaks, within but not limited to care homes, schools, and early years, in order to prevent further transmission of infection.

Maintain records of the incidence of infection, feeding back to settings with monitoring and surveillance for outbreaks and incident of infections.

To assist in the dissemination of learning from incidents and outbreaks of infection across all providers.

To develop and provide bespoke IPC audits and educational resource packages for social care and educational providers.

To be able to work independently, prioritising workload to meet service needs and demands.

Contribute to the Quarterly and Annual reports.

Act as a positive change agent, identifying and initiating changes as required to enhance service provision, Locally or Trust wide.

Provide regular feedback to Service Leads and partners as required.

Contribute and participate to the development, delivery, and evaluation of IPC educational programmes for all Health and Social Care/ Educational Providers, both face to face and virtual groups.

Participate in specialist study days and IPC awareness events

Contribute to the development of IPC educational and public information resources

Participate in the organisation and delivery of infection control education events

- Attention to detail, e.g., reports, guidance, policies.

- Managerial skills

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge of National Guidance and Standards for IPC policy and practice relevant to the NHS and Social Care/ Educational sectors to improve health outcomes and prevent transmission and outbreak of communicable disease

**Desirable**

- Awareness of specific legislation for Health and Social care / Educational settings in relation to IPC.

### Additional

**Essential**

- Full driving licence and access to own vehicle to meet service needs.
- Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of comprehensive General Nursing Experience
- Experience of developing and delivering training to a range of audiences
- Experience of integrated working with colleagues across a range of services to promote IPC
- Two years’ experience at Band 5

**Desirable**

- Community IPC/ Health Protection experience
- Evidence of experience in practice improvement or change management related to infection control.
- A noted interest in IPC experience as a Link Nurse or IPC Ambassador.
- Experience undertaking IPC audit.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Level 1 Registered Nurse – Registered with The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Teaching Qualification / Mentorship qualification
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- First level Degree / Diploma in Nursing

**Desirable**

- Additional post graduate qualification in infection, prevention and control or related subject
