### Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic dietitian with skills and experience in long term condition especially diabetes, renal and obesity to join our innovative dietetic community team at Newham University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.

### Main duties of the job

You will need to posses excellent communication and organisational skills as there is a requirement to work with MDT in the community setting as well as primary care network setting that provides a service to a diversed population. You will work alongside other community dietitians and also be working closely with the Acute Dietetics Team based at Newham Hospital to provide continuity of care.

We are committed to work based education and training to improve clinical skills. We actively encourage leadership development, CPD and audit in our service.

**Essential**

- Experience of delivering undergraduate student supervision and clinical education to postgraduate standard in area of speciality
- Experience of supervision of junior members of clinical staff
- Ability to work effectively single handedly with individuals and group and deliver complex nutritional information.
- Ability to use behavioural change/ motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate change
- Ability to problem solve, analyse complex clinical problems and create practical solutions to provide best clinical care
- Able to demonstrate and effectively utilise leadership skills
- Able to undertake accurate anthropometric measurements e.g. weights, heights, skinfold thickness to support the assessment of patients nutritional status
- Able to interpret a variety of complex clinical information to make dietetic diagnosis in area of speciality
- Ability to implement dietetic care plan and provide highly specialised advice concerning the care of patients in area of speciality
- Regularly undertakes R&D activity e.g. Critical Appraisal, Audit and is confident in the audit process
- Ability to take own initiative and to be the lead for clinical speciality
- Able to work with young adults and the understanding of their needs and priorities

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- In depth knowledge in dietetics intervention in long term conditions

- Experience in diabetes remission
- Experience in total dietary replacement as part of weight reduction

### Experience

- Extensive experience in Community Dietetics especially in long term conditions
- Understanding of team dynamics and experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in developing a service and establishing/maintaining a dietetic presence within an MDT
- Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance and its relevance to every day practice

**Desirable**

- Extensive experience in diabetes and obesity
- Experience in taking part in project work that supports improvement in service or supports a change in practice
- Experience in working with other specialist Dietitians from other trusts to undertake service review/improvement

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification
- Qualification in area of specialisation or evidence of significant experience in speciality areas
- HCPC registered

**Desirable**

- Competency/training in diabetes, renal, obesity or any long term condition
