### Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of Dorset County Hospital (DCH) Charity's communications, focussing on growing and creating engaging content for multi-platform campaigns, including the website, social media and email communications, to increase income generation and support the aims and objectives of the Fundraising Team. The role will help raise awareness of DCH Charity, inspire donations, and strengthen supporter engagement through effective storytelling and digital marketing. The postholder will be required to provide support and backfill to other roles in the team to cover sickness and holiday, as and when required. Training for this will be provided.

The Communications Coordinator is an integral part of the DCH Charity team. The post-holder will have knowledge and experience of effective communications and considerable energy and enthusiasm that will inspire patients, visitors, staff and the local community to choose to support DCH Charity.

The post-holder will contribute to the successful performance of DCH Charity by helping to plan and deliver a variety of communications campaigns and initiatives to help develop a range of income streams and create a positive supporter experience to engage new supporters and retain current supporters. The post is an important link between the DCH Charity, DCH staff and the local community, ensuring relationships are formed with a wide range of stakeholders with diverse interests and wishes for supporting DCH Charity.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Social Media

- Grow audiences and engagement on all social media channels with effective storytelling through photos, video, graphics, and engaging text, ensuring content is shared with appropriate individuals and organisations. Set up and manage a Facebook group for DCH Charity supporters.
- Liaise with DCH ward teams to create content about equipment and facilities donations have funded and regularly thank supporters.
- Use Facebook advertising and Facebook donate to increase donations, reach, and followers.
- Work with the Communications Manager to ensure campaigns are communicated effectively with clear calls to action to generate income on all social media platforms.

Website

- Manage day-to-day website updates and create engaging content including news articles, patient stories, and Appeal updates.
- Work with NHS Creative website developers and utilise Google Analytics reports to ensure the website is user-friendly, utilising donor journeys and accessible features to increase traffic and completion of Call to Actions.
- Create and manage pages for online raffles and communications/fundraising campaigns.
- Work with the Communications and Marketing Manager to ensure campaigns are effectively communicated on the website.

Emails

- Work with the Data and Income Assistant to manage data and sign-ups for supporter email updates.
- Create and design engaging regular e-newsletters using Mailchimp.
- Promote newsletter sign-ups on all our communications platforms while ensuring GDPR compliance.

General

- Use Canva to create designed assets for our communication and fundraising campaigns such as posters and leaflets. Follow DCH Charity branding guidelines to design content for digital and print use.
- Attend internal and external events when required, including cheque presentations, fundraising events and supporter celebration events, to capture content and represent the DCH Charity.
- Liaise with the Charity Team to ensure DCH Charity activities are featured in internal communications.
- Grow and maintain a stock image library for use in promotional materials.
- Liaise with supporters, corporate partners, and community fundraisers to share their stories across all communication platforms.
- Update the supporter database as required.
- Support the Communications and Marketing Manager in continuing the DCH Charity brand roll-out across all communications and marketing platforms, internal and external.
- The post-holder will be required to provide support and backfill to other roles in the team to cover sickness and holiday, as and when required. Training will be provided.

Charity Governance

- To contribute to written reports on communications and marketing activity and success alongside the Communications and Marketing Manager and Head of Fundraising and Communications, for the Charity Funds Committee.
- To follow agreed procedures in accordance with best practice and legislation, and to advise staff and volunteers on these procedures.
- To ensure all activity conducted on behalf of the Charity meets all legal and ethical standards, meeting the Fundraiser Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice, GDPR regulations, and DCH’s own finance and governance standards.
- Ensure the Charity is adhering to finance policies, procedures and processes, and implement any changes where appropriate as advised by the Head of Fundraising and Communications.
- To build positive relationships with colleagues across other NHS charities, NHS Charities
- Together and other potential bodies, and to exchange knowledge and experience for mutual benefit.
- To work independently to achieve set targets and objectives, assessing the best way to achieve these goals, with guidance and support from the Communications and Marketing Manager and Head of Fundraising and Communications.
- To support and supervise the activities of volunteer fundraisers, and to provide guidance on charity communications policy and procedure.

- Keep abreast of Charity and communications law and developments, undertaking appropriate training and ensuring compliance with the Charities Act and the Communications Regulator’s Code of Practice; with advice from the Head of Fundraising and Communications.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of working in the NHS, healthcare sector or related Charity.

### KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Level 4 vocational qualification or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in delivering effective communications and marketing.
- Understanding of communications principles, ethics, and best practices (e.g. GDPR, acquisition and engagement)
- Experience managing campaigns and promotions to achieve income targets.
- Knowledge of website/intranet content management systems and ability to manage website content.
- Experience producing digital and offline content to specific audiences.
- IT skills and systems knowledge including Microsoft Office, CRM/communications databases and Canva.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of Google Ad Words and social media tracking and reporting,
- Good knowledge of the wider health and social care community, with a good understanding of current NHS issues, NHS and the work of DCH Charity.

### EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS and TRAINING

**Essential**

- HNC / HND / Level 4 vocational qualification.
- Extensive, relevant communications experience or transferable skills/experience.
- UK Driving Licence.
