### Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, accredited Clinical Vascular Scientist to join our small, friendly and highly specialist Vascular Studies Unit (VSU) at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT). The VSU provide comprehensive vascular imaging support to a range of clinics and services, including:

- One‑stop vascular clinics (surgeon- and nurse-led)
- Multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinics
- Weekly vascular hot clinics
- Thrombosis outpatient services
- Rapid access TIA clinics
- Inpatient and outpatient vascular services

You will work closely with a well‑established multidisciplinary team, including Consultant Vascular Surgeons, Interventional Radiologists, Specialist Nurses, and other consultant groups.

This role offers the chance to work in a beautiful part of the country, while independently carrying out advanced vascular investigations, contributing to service development, and playing a pivotal role in the diagnosis and management of patients with vascular disease.

Vascular Scientists are allocated 20% protected non‑scanning time, enabling engagement in:

- MDT meetings
- Teaching and training
- CPD activities
- Quality assurance, audit, and governance
- Departmental and service development work
- Mandatory training

The Trust actively supports staff wishing to contribute to CVSV committees and professional leadership roles, with opportunities available to attend funded external courses/conferences.

### Main duties of the job

On appointment, you will work autonomously and provide supervision to others, performing and reporting complex vascular ultrasound examinations to the highest professional standard. These include:

- Carotid duplex
- Upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex scanning
- Thoracic outlet syndrome and popliteal entrapment examinations
- Graft surveillance
- Pre‑fistula mapping and post‑fistula surveillance
- EVAR follow‑up
- Pre‑operative vein marking

You will provide expert clinical opinion, contribute to governance processes, and support service improvement initiatives.

## Person Specification

### Education

**Essential**

- A relevant science degree
- Full CSVS accreditation (AVS), or HCPC equivalent

**Desirable**

- MSc in Vascular Ultrasound

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Minimum of three years practical experience as a vascular scientist
- Ability to perform and independently report a full range of diagnostic vascular ultrasound examinations
- Competent in obtaining a comprehensive clinical history from patients

**Desirable**

- 1 year post qualification (AVS/STP/equivalent) experience
- Participated in clinical research trials

### Practical and Intellectual Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to work autonomously or part of a team
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent IT skills

**Desirable**

- Experience using PACS and RIS IT systems
