### Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified RMN with significant experience to join a well established team in the inpatient rehabilitation service in North Devon.

We are seeking a motivated individual who has ideas, strengths and leadership skills. you will be responsible for clinical leadership as well as deputising for the ward manager in their absence.

Ensuring the rota is balanced and the staff skill and gender mix is appropriate is another additional part of the role. taking a lead on teaching and assessing junior staff and preceptees as well as clinical supervision is also an integral part of the band 6 role.

Ocean view ward is a 10 bedded, mixed gender ward for people with complex psychosis and severe and enduring mental ill health. Patients often have physical co-morbidities, so we are seeking someone with knowledge and skills in this area who will also be able to demonstrate leadership and teaching to junior staff. The ward has a well established team, but also includes some newer staff who will need to be supported through preceptorship programmes.

We welcome applications from staff who have a recovery approach embedded in their practice. We are looking for applicants who have a strong experience of risk within the inpatient setting. We work collaboratively with the community rehabilitation team to ensure both inpatients and community patients receive a seamless service. This will be a key element of the band 6 role.

### Main duties of the job

- Be part of a busy inpatient team within a leadership position.
- Taking responsibility for clinical issues and assessments.
- Deputising for the ward manager and working collaboratively with the other band 6 CTL to ensure staff are supported, educated and adhere to Trust policies.
- Working with a recovery focus and demonstrating leadership to juniors within the team and providing clinical supervision.
- Participation in audits and QI projects.
- Being involved in recruiting high quality staff.
- Taking a lead in MDT meetings and professionals meetings and contributing clinically to a senior level.
- Working to the needs of the service, including shifts and nights where required.
- Being a key part in an effective service that ensures discharge planning at the outset of admission and minimising delayed discharges.
- Fulfilling the job description and taking part in governance and service development.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Substantial post registration experience
- Experience as a Band 5 in an acute inpatient setting
- Experience working within an MDT
- Clinical Supervision and Mentoring Experience
- Experience of managing staff
- Mentoring students in line with professional requirements

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- A professional Mental Health Nursing qualification
- Evidence of PREP

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification e.g. Mentors 998

### Knowledge & Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills / Basic computer skills
- Able to provide and receive complex sensitive information in relation to staff, service users, families and carers
- Able to problem solve and assist others in this process
- Effectively manage admission/discharges
- Ability to assess and manage risk effectively
- Lead and supervise staff to provide a high quality, effective service
- Good liaison skills and ability to manage difficult and complex situations
- Effectively able to manage own time and that of the team / Ability to work flexibly
- Able to undertake nursing procedures e.g. manual handling, physical restraint
