The Community Brain Injury Team (CBIT) is a supportive, motivated and experienced team of clinicians including, in addition to this speech and language therapy post, a physiotherapist, occupational therapist (also team lead), psychologist and rehabilitation worker. We work collaboratively towards person centred goals. We are supported by an admin hub.

CBIT is a specialist service providing neuro rehabilitation to adults affected by brain injury. CBIT is provided by the NHS Kent and Medway Mental Health Trust.

The Community Brain Injury Team’s mission statement is to provide high quality neuro rehabilitation to adults affected by brain injury living in the community. Our service addresses the physical, psychological and social consequences of brain injury. Working with the client, family and carers we offer personalised care plans and collaborative goal setting to facilitate enablement and adjustment to promote effective self-management.

The speech and language therapy postholder will work embedded within the well-regarded Community Brain Injury Team to provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention to optimise the communication of the service users.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide expert speech and language therapy assessment and rehabilitation to service users of the Community Brain Injury Team (CBIT) - To provide a consistently high standard of goal-orientated treatment  programmes for patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs. -To ensure excellent communication and guidance to the clinical team,  patients, carers and families on the communication needs of the person to optimise their recovery and function.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of multi-disciplinary / interagency working including autonomous and collaborative working
- Treatment of a broad range of conditions relating to clinical specialty (neurorehab and specifically brain injury)
- Further training relevant to the role
- Post registration experience of working within a relevant setting and specialty
- An understanding of relevant legal frameworks including Mental Capacity Act, Health and Care Act, Care Act, Health and Safety etc.

**Desirable**

- Membership of a professional special interest group

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Understanding and expertise in the principles of risk assessment and risk management
- Ability to respond efficiently to complex information within tight deadlines and prioritise accordingly
- Ability to effectively communicate the outcomes of assessments and interventions to a range of people including patient, carer, family and professionals who may or may not have any prior knowledge or experience of communication difficulties.
- Problem solving/decision making in relation to clinical practice

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Active relevant health professional / AHP registration

**Desirable**

- A degree or equivalent qualification/experience at post registration level
