Job overview

The Clinical Site Manager is responsible for the effective utilisation of beds across the Trust 24/7.  Ensuring that elective and emergency admissions are accommodated in the most appropriate areas.

The role is to oversee the effective management of the hospital out of hours. This will include utilisation of both nursing and clinical staff, and emergency response to clinical and non-clinical situations. This involves the provision of services out of hours in several departments, this to include staffing, mortuary, porters, pharmacy, HSDU supplies, estates, transport, and single point referrals. Responding to any adverse incidents and communicating with the on-call manager, providing professional advice to non-clinical managers to ensure effective operational management.

Communication is an essential part of the role; liaising with all disciplines to ensure that any potential for crisis is avoided.

Main duties of the job

To collate and report accurate and timely information relating to the Trust Bed Capacity, supported by administrative colleagues, using in house IT systems including Extramed

Co-ordinating all admissions and transfers across the Trust and working closely with the nurse in charge on both MAU and in ED.

Predicting the need for escalation and organise meetings with all relevant personnel.

Predicting any short fall in elective bed capacity and discuss at the escalation meeting, action any plan as a result and inform all relevant people of the outcome.

To ensure repatriation of patients transferred to other hospitals in line with the bed management policy.

Attend timely safety huddles in the emergency department and action escalations.

To encourage ward staff to utilise the discharge lounge.

To provide medication advice for discharge lounge patients as required.

To communicate with the integrated discharge team to ensure maximum utilisation of rehabilitation and community beds.

To work in conjunction with matrons and the ward discharge teams to support timely discharge including escalation of delays.

To provide expertise, managerial and clinical leadership to co-ordinate the operational function of a busy hospital.
