Attention all registered Clinical Scientists with a specialism in Clinical Gait Analysis

Location: Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) and The Sheffield Children’s Hospital (SCH) Gait Lab, soon to be located at the NCCHT (National Centre of Child Health Technology

There is a need for clinical experience or equivalent in clinical gait analysis. Further training is encouraged within the team and staff development is paramount to our success.

Sitting within the Directorate of Medical Imaging & Medical Physics (MIMP), the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) employs almost 200 staff, providing a variety of scientific and clinical services to the Trust. Evidence of audit and research experience would be an advantage as the group also has an active research portfolio.

The post is open to applicants who are registered as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC with clinical experience or equivalent in Clinical Gait Analysis.

### Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a HCPC registered Clinical Scientists with clinical experience in Clinical Gait Analysis (CGA). We are seeking to recruit a full time band 7 Clinical Scientist to the Specialist Scientific Physiological Services (SSPS) to support the scientific team who provide scientific support to the Sheffield Children’s Gait Lab which will shortly be moving to the new NCCHT site. The SCH Lab is accredited with the Clinical Movement Analysis Society (CMAS) and the post holder will be expected to assist the scientific team to maintain this accreditation as well as providing expert scientific support to the service.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Good patient handling skills
- Excellent standard and specialist software skills
- Skilled in the measurement, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrable across different staff groups, patients and members of the public
- Effective time management
- Excellent report writing and presentational skills
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, knowledge of codes of practice and recommendations in quality assurance
- Knowledge of current scientific and technological developments in clinical measurement.
- Knowledge of clinical and information governance relating to current service areas

**Desirable**

- A working knowledge of the correct application of statistical analyses
- Experience in the appropriate use of statistics and statistical analyses
- Knowledge of research methodology and practice

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable experience of working to relevant legislation, standards and guidance
- Experience of providing direct scientific clinical services and taking high quality scientific measurements from patients
- An understanding of clinical governance and its relevance to the clinical services provided by Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering
- Experience of developing standard operating procedures and protocols

**Desirable**

- Experience in the innovative design and development of devices systems
- Experience of developing and implementing quality assurance programmes
- Experience of working within a Quality Management System
- Experience in contributing to research, leading to publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or oral presentation at approved scientific meetings
- Evidence of effective service development (e.g. completed projects) and implementation of innovative ideas in the clinical environment
- Awareness of the wider profession, regionally, nationally and internationally

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc degree of 2:1 or higher in an appropriate subject (e.g. Biomechanics/ Healthcare Science/ Engineering/ Physics)
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Biomechanics/ Medical Physics/Clinical Engineering
- Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist
- Participating in a programme for continuing professional development

**Desirable**

- PhD or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in health related science
