### Job overview

The post lies within the new mild-moderate eating disorder pathway which will serve all five boroughs within the North London Foundation Trust. Each post holder will be allocated to one of the five boroughs and sit within the core teams to provide psychological assessment, treatment, consultation and training to those with mild-moderate eating disorders.

### Main duties of the job

To deliver specialist assessment and treatments to clients with Eating Disorders. To support referrals into the pathway through the appropriate governence. To interface with internal and external agencies to support the detection and assessment of eating disorders.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical

- Ensuring the smooth and effective journey of patients into and through the mild-moderate eating disorder pathway as required.

- To develop and manage close working relationships with voluntary sector and community organisations and into primary care.

- Holding a multi-cultural framework in mind, helping to increase accessibility and suitability of our services to BAME communities.

- To be responsible for undertaking timely complex psychological assessments for individuals with mild-moderate eating disorder symptoms, within the team and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing on evidence-based therapy models, maintaining an open mind to the nature of the difficulties encountered in the work, in consultation with the MDT and under supervision.

- To provide trauma-informed psychological interventions and provide consultation.

- To communicate highly complex information and at times emotive information in a trauma-informed way.
Clinical Professional development and governance 
1.    To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder’s professional and service manager(s).
 
2.    To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
 
3.    To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society, standards set by the Health Professions Council for continuing registration and Trust policies and procedures.
 
4.    To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.

## Person Specification

### Governance

**Essential**

- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
- Personal experience of mental health problems. Experience of working within a multicultural framework.

### Training and qualifications

**Essential**

- Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology (or BPS accredited equivalent), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS. AND HCPC registration. OR Post graduate Diploma in CBT BABCP accreditation. High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies, including CBT.

**Desirable**

- Eligibility for Chartered Psychologist status. Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology. Post qualification training relevant to eating disorders

### Knowledge, skills and experience

**Essential**

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Awareness and/or experience of multi-cultural issues in the delivery of therapy. Evidence of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams/agencies in an effective way advanced knowledge of risk assessment and management. Ability to contain, explore and formulate an understanding of high levels of distress both directly with patients and indirectly via supervision of other staff.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Ability to set, monitor and evaluate standards for quality within the service. Ability to work effectively in crisis situations in order to maintain the safety of both staff and client.
