AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

- Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
- Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably experienced registered nurses, mental health nurses or midwifes to work at Chalmers Gender Identity Clinic (GIC). The GIC is part of Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS) which operates from Chalmers Centre and 10 local clinics. LSRHS provides Tier 4 and 5 specialist sexual health services working across 4 Community Health and Social Care Partnerships meeting the needs of 80,000 patient attendances per annum. Usual hours of work are Monday to Friday 08.30-16.30 or 12.00 – 20.00 with opportunity to do long days.

The post holders will predominantly spend their time working within the Gender Identity Clinic with opportunities to work in the wider services offered by the main Chalmers Centre. Training will be offered to post-holders to gain an understanding and knowledge in the assessment, treatment and review of patients accessing gender identity services to allow them to autonomously manage initial and ongoing care of our service users. Post holders would also be expected to participate in the care of people requiring a variety of sexual and reproductive health issues and share in the management and leadership of the nursing team.

Essential Criteria for the job include:

First level registered nurse, mental health nurse or midwife with current NMC registration; post registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health; minimum of two years post registration experience in sexual health, gender identity / trans-healthcare or another directly related area. A clear interest for working in gender identity services is essential. Independent non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards this. You must be comfortable assessing and documenting psychosocial aspects of care.

Evidence of a non-judgemental person centred approach, ability to use initiative and work independently; effective communication skills; highly developed clinical consultation skills; and a willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently to local clinics throughout Lothian.

Flexibility and willingness to work across all areas of the LSRHS, and to deliver care in a range of different ways (e.g via telephone or video consultations)

Desirable criteria include: evidence of team work and leadership; competence in contraceptive Implant insertion and removal.

The post is Band 6 on the Agenda for Change Payscale
