### Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Thoracic Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team at Royal Papworth Hospital, the UKs leading cardiothoracic hospital, rated Outstanding by the CQC in all domains. We seek an experienced oncology nurse leader who is passionate about delivering exceptional, patient-centred cancer care and driving service improvement.

The role of Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experience. The post holder will be an effective core member of the lung cancer Multidisciplinary Team, acting as an expert practitioner within the lung cancer team demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with thoracic cancers and their physical and emotional care. This will include supporting patients throughout their pathway from investigations through their treatments, oncology care pathways and post treatment.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage complex patients and their complex needs. This will ensure patients are able to make informed decisions about the treatments offered to them. You will be a highly skilled practitioner acting as a specialist resource to support the team. The post holder will also contribute to lung cancer clinics, day to day patient management and support changes to our services within the department and wider developments within Royal Papworth Hospital.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- To be a clinical expert within own field of practice (which might include experience in oncology, thoracic surgery, respiratory, palliative care).
- The ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team as well as mentor and educate junior staff.
- Knowledge and application of clinical governance frameworks including Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), policy and procedure, audit and quality assurance
- Knowledge and application of safeguarding policies and procedures, particularly those related to vulnerable patients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own and others' workload.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to participate in further training and education.
- Competent IT skills.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree level or above level of qualification in Adult Nursing plus post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses to master's equivalent level
- OR equivalent highly developed specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.
- Leadership/management training and/or experience.
- Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council.
