## Job Content

### Job overview

The Sheffield Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder (PD/MD) team are looking to recruit a nurse who is keen to develop their career via the Specialist Nurse pathway. If you enjoy working in partnership with patients, taking a holistic approach to long term conditions and being part of that patients journey – this may be the role for you.

As such we are looking for a motivated nurse with a keen drive to learn and become established in the role of the Specialist Nurse in PD/MD. Currently we have a well-established team of experienced nurses and as such you need not be an PD/MD expert now; we will provide a comprehensive orientation and professional development plan which will be tailored to nurture the abilities you already possess and develop those skills needed to succeed as a Specialist Nurse.

The successful applicant will be driven, forward thinking and committed to being involved in all aspects of the patient pathway. They will self-reliant and confident in being able to work flexibly and adapt to change, all whilst ensuring they are working within the remits of their role. A car driver with use of a car is favoured as the post holder will provide services to a large geographical area by way of satellite clinics.

### Main duties of the job

As a specialist you are required to act as a point of contact for your patient; to be an advocate for their care and to liaise with all those involved in the care pathway, both in the hospital and community setting. As such communication and collaboration are vital skills you must possess to a high standard.

Through use of good communication you will ensure your patients are supported from initial diagnosis, with medication management, psychological and social support, whilst ensuring all safety concerns are addressed. For those patients who cannot advocate for themselves we are a point of contact for carers and families to support their loved ones.

The successful applicant will work with their colleagues to contribute to the multidisciplinary team, facilitating management of patients with PD/MD and the social, psychological and physical complexities this diagnosis can bring.

You must also be able to manage your own workload within busy time constraints. You will work autonomously running nurse-led clinics but have the support of colleagues as well as two Senior Nurse Specialists.

Currently in the team we have professionals from a variety of backgrounds, and we are open to the diversity and richness that an individual brings to the team.

We want to hear from individuals who have a high level of integrity and professionalism, a team player who is willing to work hard to put the service user at the centre of all we deliver.

If this is you we want to hear from you.
