### Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative nurse with experience and interest in paediatric sickle cell to a fixed-term clinical nurse specialist role, working across the network to ensure children receive timely stroke surveillance and treatment.

As a clinical nurse specialist you will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team working together to deliver this specialist service to children and families under the care of Evelina London across the South East network. This will involve travel across the region to local network hospitals, building relationships with network teams and delivering education and support.

You will bring excellent communication, clinical skills and a desire to maintain and role model a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. There is an expectation that you will be able to work autonomously. The role also involves an element of lone working.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring every eligible child with sickle cell disease across the SE network receives the surveillance and care they need, and that those at risk of stroke have access to appropriate treatment to improve clinical outcomes.

You will act as a role model for excellent advanced communication skills and expertise, building positive relationships across the clinical network. You will provide clinical supervision to other staff and students, and may take part in research & clinical audits in this specialist area.

The post holder will ensure the safety and wellbeing of service users, and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Evidence of teaching skills in particular teaching patients in how to manage their conditions and raise their awareness of their condition.
- Ability to carry out audit and research
- Ability to conduct & evaluate own projects successfully
- Able to use skills of history taking and physical assessment to direct patient care
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills

**Desirable**

- Experience of nursing research /audit
- Experience of using of variety of IT applications to undertake clinic/meetings and patient care

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care.
- Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
- Experience of delivering patient advocacy
- Experience of audit, research & evidence based care

**Desirable**

- Experience of change management or service improvement
- Previous experience as CNS or other senior role

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
- Leadership course
- Mentorship course
