The CNS should be leading in the use of evidence based clinical practise in line with current research, guidelines and other available evidence. You should ensure that patients and their families are fully informed about their journey through the service (dependant on speciality). Utilise other members of the MDT when required to increase knowledge and skills to ensure delivery of reliable high quality care. Demonstrate comprehensive holistic assessment of patients utilising a variety of advanced clinical skills, while acting as a role model, in line with your Clinical Nurse Specialist role for your service. Influence effective multidisciplinary teamwork and communication between health, social and voluntary organisations to deliver co-ordinated, seamless care. Co-ordinate/manage any relevant clinics for your service or/and be prepared to develop such clinics to benefit your patient group. Organise blood tests and other appropriate investigations for your speciality (dependant on your skill level and training). Interpret the investigation results (ensure red flags are noted) and make appropriate plan of care, liaising with consultant of the speciality/GP, as required, regarding future treatment and management dependant on your speciality. Provide an effective and accessible telephone advice service for patients and families and their carers. Ensure patient records are maintained in an accurate, legible, complete and timely manner. Be available to offer advice on all aspects of your speciality, providing clinical advice and supporting Trust staff in meeting the standards and protocols in delivery of care for your speciality.
