### Job overview

A Home Haemodialysis Nurse provides specialised care to patients with kidney failure who perform dialysis treatments in their own homes.

Their role includes training patients and or caregivers to safely operate dialysis equipment, monitoring treatment effectiveness, and ensuring infection control procedures are followed.

Within this role you would assess patients’ health, manage complications, and offer ongoing clinical and emotional support.

The successful candidate would also coordinates with healthcare teams to adjust treatment plans and promote patient independence and quality of life.

### Main duties of the job

Support patients using Home Haemodialysis (HHD) in their normal living environment such as their home, care home, prison, or self-care dialysis area. A driving licence and ability to travel is essential.

Assess new patients who have been referred to see if they are suitable for home haemodialysis.

Communicate and work with renal equipment suppliers and technicians regarding:

- Installation of home dialysis machines
- Ongoing technical support
- Removal of equipment when no longer needed.

Take part in education and training for patients, carers, staff, students, and volunteers.

Attend consultant-led clinics and contribute to weekly progress discussions about patients.

Collect blood samples from patients, review results promptly, and report urgent concerns to the Home Haemodialysis Manager, consultants, or on-call renal registrar.

Record all patient interactions clearly and accurately.

Work with the renal anaemia team or HHD consultant to help manage patients’ blood counts and iron levels.

Organise and communicate schedules for home visits, clinics, and training sessions.

Help check and order dialysis supplies for both patients’ homes and the training area.

- Experience and knowledge of transplantation, peritoneal dialysis and nephrology
- Renal Course or equivalent

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to recognise a deteriorating patient and management of care

**Desirable**

- Home Haemodialysis Experience
- Experience in staff management

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- RGN Qualification
- Minimum 1 year HD experience
- Competent in SSSA/ Mentorship equivalent

**Desirable**

- Coaching/ Counselling/ Sage and Thyme training
- Understanding of relevant IT systems used, iclip/cv5
