Job overview

The Haematology team is expanding and seeks a motivated, compassionate individual committed to delivering high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will have strong clinical experience in managing malignant and selected non-malignant haematology conditions, alongside excellent communication skills to support shared care with the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and other tertiary providers. This role requires confident autonomous practice, sound clinical judgement, and flexibility. You will support patients at key stages of their pathway, including delivering sensitive counselling at diagnosis or disease progression, coordinating diagnostic investigations, and monitoring treatment response. As the first point of contact for patients receiving treatment, you will lead timely assessment, proactive intervention, and coordinate admissions when required. The role demands experience in both acute and routine care, SACT delivery, and nurse-led clinics, with responsibilities for leadership, role modelling, and supporting junior staff. Main duties of the job

  • To promote high standards of specialist care for patients with a haematological malignancy, ensuring a quality experience.
  • To provide specialist support and care to patients admitted with complications of their cancer treatment.
  • To work autonomously to support patients with a haematological malignancy, facilitating necessary investigations and providing clinical engagement and support for patients receiving SACT.
  • Deliver HNA and treatment summary clinics for all patients.
  • To be a resource both within the trust and the community for clinical advice and information.
  • With the Lead Cancer Nurse contribute to clinical governance within the trust for haematology  patients.
  • To deliver care in line with National and Alliance guidance and requirements

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to address patients’ complex health needs.
  • Initiate and promote collaborative working relationships and effective communication between all members of the MDT to improve the management and outcomes of patients within the specialist area
  • Discuss investigations and treatment for cancer with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise. Attend MDT and consultant ward rounds.
  • Deliver clinical care and management in line with local and national guidance and best practice.
