The Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia, who will also undertake the role of Obstetric Anaesthetic Lead (1 PA). The successful applicant will join the existing obstetric anaesthetic consultant team and share responsibility for delivering a safe, high-quality anaesthetic service to the maternity unit, working closely with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, and theatre teams.

### Main duties of the job

The appointment is to the Trust rather than to a specific hospital site.

The post holder will undertake 1 PA of Obstetric Anaesthetic Lead responsibilities. In this role, they will provide clinical leadership to the obstetric anaesthetic team and support the ongoing development of maternity anaesthetic services across all Trust sites. This includes supporting service improvement initiatives, ensuring consistent standards of care, and contributing to the strategic direction of obstetric anaesthesia in line with Trust, OAA, and national maternity safety priorities.

The post holder will undertake an agreed programme of clinical activity within Obstetric Anaesthesia, including labour ward sessions, elective and emergency theatre lists, and high-risk obstetric anaesthetic care. Cross-site working will be required and the job plan will be reviewed annually.

The post holder will retain continuing clinical responsibility for patients admitted under their care and contribute to education and training for anaesthetic trainees, midwives, obstetric staff, and allied health professionals.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining up-to-date specialist knowledge in obstetric anaesthesia, supporting multidisciplinary working across maternity services, attending departmental and maternity governance meetings, and working collaboratively with the Divisional Director, Clinical Director, and Specialty Leads to support the continued development of maternity anaesthetic services.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Evidence of continued professional development and engagement in relevant education and training within Obstetric Anaesthesia and Maternity Services.
- Understanding of NHS maternity services, labour ward operational delivery, and national maternity safety priorities.

**Desirable**

- Additional qualifications or training in obstetric anaesthesia, patient safety, or leadership.
- Experience leading labour ward service improvements or obstetric anaesthetic transformation projects.
