Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT) is a major trauma centre and hub for the Thames Valley Vascular Unit (TVVU) which includes two major spoke Trusts (Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) and the Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust (RBHFT)) and covers a population of approximately 2.2 million patients. The catchment is large for the number of vascular surgeons and therefore it is one of the busiest units in the UK undertaking the full remit of procedures including: more than 100 aortic procedures (open and endovascular), up to 150 carotid procedures a year, 40 deep venous reconstructions, 50 – 100 lower limb bypass surgeries as well as thoracic outlet surgery and support to the major trauma team. The unit has a historic reputation for open surgery but also undertakes more complex endovascular work including regular fenestrated and thoracic stent repairs, very distal angioplasty and deep venous arterialisation. The vascular unit also provides a dissection service for complex spinal reconstructions, a carotid body tumour service and the supra-regional abdominal sarcoma service. ### Main duties of the job (a) Aims and responsibilities of the post: To provide vascular surgical experience to the successful candidate with an emphasis on open vascular surgery. To provide comprehensive elective and emergency vascular and endovascular surgical experience at a large UK vascular network. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate professional development within the post by attending relevant meetings. Participation in audit is required.
