Applications are invited for a full-time Fixed Term Clinical Fellow post in Neonatal Medicine (ST1–3 equivalent), based within the Neonatal Unit at Southmead Hospital. The post is available to start as soon as possible and is initially offered for 6 months, with the possibility of extension to 12 months.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a busy tertiary neonatal centre. Southmead Hospital is home to a 16-cot Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit and serves as a tertiary medical neonatal centre and joint lead provider for the South West Neonatal Network. With approximately 5,500 births each year, the unit delivers the full spectrum of neonatal intensive care, accepting tertiary referrals from across the South West.

The Neonatal Unit is recognised for its specialist expertise in Neonatal Neurology and provides a regional tertiary referral service for the South West of England. The department has a strong reputation for clinical excellence, research, education and evidence-based practice, offering an outstanding learning environment for doctors wishing to develop their neonatal medicine experience.

Although this post does not hold postgraduate deanery approval and is not recognised for formal training, it offers high-quality educational and clinical experience within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will join the neonatal medical team and participate in a full shift rota, contributing to the delivery of high-quality care for babies requiring intensive, high dependency and specialist neonatal services.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration and have experience working within UK hospital systems and practices, or an equivalent healthcare environment.

This post offers valuable exposure to a wide range of neonatal conditions and provides opportunities to develop clinical skills within a tertiary referral setting, supported by experienced consultants and multidisciplinary colleagues.

## Person Specification

### Work Experience

**Essential**

- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Completed pre-registration year (or equivalent outside the UK).
- Competent in history taking and examination skills.
- At least 6 months UK experience

**Desirable**

- Previous experience in Paediatrics
- Technical skills involved in the care of children

### Qualifications And Registration

**Essential**

- MB BS (or equivalent)
- Maintain Full registration with the GMC, with a licence to practice.

**Desirable**

- MRCP Part 1
- APLS, NLS

### Management/audit/research/teaching

**Essential**

- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
- Experience in audit project and written up
- Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge of specialty.
- Proven teaching ability
- Interest in research

**Desirable**

- Commitment to high quality research.
- Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Proven track record in teaching.
