### Job overview

This is a new post created to meet demand in our busy core urology department.  The post is full-time in adult Urology, based at Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust, London for 12 months.  The post is designed to offer junior surgical trainees planning a career in urology, the opportunity to extend their clinical experience in urology.  The post is not recognised for training but offers valuable clinical experience which will aid future application to National Recruitment. The post would be particularly suitable for trainees who have completed foundation training and are sitting membership examination (MRCS) or have recently completed it.

### Main duties of the job

The post focuses on building core urology skills and knowledge, under direct supervision of 5 consultant urological surgeons (Clinical Lead: Miss Lehana Yeo) together with 5 urology middle grades.  There are daily ward rounds for in-patients and in-patient referrals from other teams, and the post holder is expected to assess and outline management, supported by urology registrars, FY1 trainee and with close consultant supervision. There is plenty of opportunity for training and gaining experience in managing urological emergencies, outpatients, diagnostics and core urological surgical skills in day surgery and main theatres.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will have an important role in supporting the daily inpatient urology service, including ward rounds, assessment of inpatient referrals, review of urological emergencies during normal working hours, follow-up of investigations, documentation and handover. The post is intended to strengthen continuity of care for urology inpatients and referrals, working under the supervision of the urology registrars and consultant of the day

There are also opportunities to conduct remote or F2F outpatient clinics to assess new and follow-up patients. They will be assigned minor operating lists and flexible cystoscopy clinic, all under consultant supervision.

The post holder will participate fully in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes. The post holder is actively encouraged to carry out clinically-oriented short-term research projects and audit projects. It is expected that the post holder will ensure all mandatory training objectives are met and regularly attends and participates in the monthly departmental audit meetings.
