This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking Emergency Department as a Clinical Fellow.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a fast-paced and supportive environment, managing a wide range of acute presentations while developing your clinical confidence and autonomy. Working alongside experienced Consultants and a strong multidisciplinary team, you will be supported to take on increasing responsibility, including leading patient care, supporting junior colleagues, and contributing to the operational flow of the department.

This role is ideal for doctors looking to bridge the gap between core training and higher specialty training. You will gain valuable experience in clinical leadership, decision-making, and service development, with dedicated opportunities to engage in teaching, audit, and quality improvement.

### Main duties of the job

The Emergency Department at St Peters’ is the largest and busiest department in Surrey operating a 24 hour service and seeing over 110,000 patients a year.

We are looking for someone to join an engaged, high energy team and add their own unique value to the already diverse team.

Up to 80% of the post is clinical reflecting our offer to higher trainees.   You will spend time working amongst your middle grade colleagues, under the oversight of the EM Consultant Team and supporting the Foundation Year Two trainees, GPST,  ST 1-3 trainees and Clinical Fellows.   Senior Clinical Fellows are offered weekly protected department teaching and benefit from education supervision from an EM consultant.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In 2021 Ashford and St Peters have been through a restructure moving from four divisions to six. The Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) division was formed in January 2021 and we rapidly expanded our EM Consultant workforce in 2022 and again in 2025.  It is a really exciting time to join us.  Our aim is to provide excellence in clinical care and strive continuously for service development.

ED is divided into 6 sections:

- Ambulatory Majors
- Trolleys / Low dependency
- Majors / High dependency
- RAT
- Resuscitation
- ED Chairs

The Urgent and Emergency Division also covers Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and oversees our working relationship with the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and the Psychiatric Liaison team.

The Emergency Department at St Peters’ is the largest and busiest department in Surrey operating a 24 hour service and seeing over 110,000 patients a year.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Trust vision, values, strategic objectives and key work programmes
- Awareness of clinical governance
- FRCEM Intermediate Or MRCEM
- MBBS or equivalent medical Qualification
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice
- Life support courses: ALS/ ATLS

### Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of 24 months or more Emergency medicine at registrar level (Ideally within the UK/NHS or similar setting)
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Personal involvement in audit
- Within 3 months development of being ready to take charge of the Emergency Department out of hours, with support from the on call Consultant
- Achievement of components of ST4+ competencies, ARCP or equivalent

**Desirable**

- 2 years or more in UK Emergency Dept
- - Able to take charge of the Emergency Department out of hours, with support from the on call Consultant
