### Job overview

We are looking for an exceptional, thoughtful and dynamic clinical fellow with at least 4 years’ experience in paediatrics who wants to enhance their communication and multidisciplinary skills by joining the children and young person’s gender service AND the Paediatric sexual assault referral centre team for a unique training opportunity. This is a less than full time post (30 hours a week) with no on call requirement for a fixed term of 12 months. The post is a hybrid post. 50% of the role will be within the South West CYPGS: one of 4 national centres providing tertiary level care to children and young people. 50% of the role will be within the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (Paediatric): one of two regional centres in the South West providing medical and forensic care to children and young people who have been sexually harmed or in whom sexual harm is suspected. Both roles involve high level multidisciplinary working in a supportive and well supervised environment. The role is suited to an experienced paediatric clinician or senior paediatric trainee with a passion and interest in holistic assessment and formulation, safeguarding, adolescent healthcare and trauma informed working. The post may be suitable as OOPE/OOPT from run –through training with the appropriate deanery permissions and the successful post holder will be supported to apply for these if applicable

### Main duties of the job

The post will be dual site based. The SARC element will be based on the second floor of the Central Health Clinic, Tower Hill, Bristol and is co-located with the Sexual Health service Yuno. The CYPGS will be based within the CYPGS service, this is currently delivered mainly from St James Court in Bristol but is anticipated to be largely delivered from the new site at Patchway early 2027. The post holder will be supervised and supported by both a consultant paediatrician within the SARC service (Paediatric lead) and a consultant paediatrician within the CYPGS service (Lead paediatrician), the Clinical Director and the Clinical Lead of the CYPGS

### Skills and Abilities

**Essential**

- Ability to gain confidence of both staff and patients
- Ability to work effectively within an MDT environment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload
- Willingness to work in a children’s service explicitly established to implement the Cass Review.
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
- Willingness to travel to and work at other sites necessitated by the role

**Desirable**

- Experience of undergraduate and post graduate teaching
- Teaching skills course/ formal teaching qualification

### Additional and Aptitudes

**Essential**

- Fluent English speaker
- Enthusiasm for multi-professional working, discussion and collaboration
- Awareness of personal limitations and the importance of self-care
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD)
- Positive approach to evidence based practice and evidence of this
- Medical Indemnity (MPS/MDU/MDDUS)
- IT skills on all Microsoft packages

**Desirable**

- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports or peer reviewed research papers
- Good clinical practise accreditation
- Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of sexual health, child health or the safeguarding of adults and children

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Minimum 4 years post graduate experience in Paediatrics.
- Knowledge of and compliance with child and adult safeguarding procedures
- Knowledge of the Cass Review, the NHS England intervention plan and the CYPGS Service Specification 2026
- Good clinical judgement
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and the individual responsibilities it implies

**Desirable**

- Experience in the management of people who have experienced maltreatment/child abuse/sexual harm
- Experience in any of the following areas: Gynaecology, Genito-Urinary medicine Reproductive & Sexual Health/contraceptive provision, clinical Forensic Medicine, A&E, psychiatry, general practice,
- Previous involvement with Strategy discussions/meetings, multi-agency discussions
- Previous Court attendances as a professional witness
- Experience in completing holistic assessments of a child/young person and their families including understanding of potential contributing factors such as neurodiversity, social situation and adverse childhood experiences.
- Experience in assessment of puberty and use of Tanner staging.

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Registered with GMC (UK)
- Registerable medical qualification (MBChB or equivalent)
- MRCPCH/FRCPCH
- Medical Indemnity (MPS/MDU/MDDUS)

**Desirable**

- Other relevant qualification (e.g. BSc or DFSRH)
- Level 3 safeguarding training
- Training in Trauma Informed Practice
- Good Clinical Practise certification
