Craniofacial Fellow in Plastic Surgery

Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation is a leading paediatric centre in the UK and globally.

You are invited to apply to join our craniofacial surgical team. There is currently 1 post within the Craniofacial Surgery Team that would be ideal for senior trainees who wish to consolidate their training in a highly specialised paediatric environment. The appointment will be for 6 months commencing 1st July 2026, with the possibility of a further six months.

The hospital provides a comprehensive range of paediatric specialties at tertiary care level. In association with the Institute of Child Health there are opportunities for research, training and development in all aspects of health & disease in children.

Based in central London, GOSH offers flexible working, help with childcare and travel, excellent training and development opportunities and assistance with finding somewhere to live.

### Main duties of the job

- The purpose of the Craniofacial Fellow post is to provide day-to-day clinical management of craniofacial patients (in conjunction with other team members) and to undertake a research project.

Candidates with a Plastic Surgery, ENT, Neurosurgical or Maxillofacial background will be considered.

- The inpatient assessment of children with craniofacial conditions.
- Assisting at craniofacial operating lists.
- Primary responsibility for perioperative care of these patients. Take part in one in seven on call rotas for plastic surgery (there is no Accident and Emergency department in the hospital).
- Undertake weekly outpatient clinics

### Skills/Abilities

**Essential**

- Competence in all aspects of plastic patient management
- Basic training in general surgery at SHO level
- Ability to establish and maintain working relations with patients, carers and multi-disciplinary colleagues
- Audit Project Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Presentation Skills
- Ability to work in teams and also on own initiative, without Consultant supervision in some instances.
- Computer Literacy/IT skills
- Ability to teach nursing and medical staff
- Medical management – able to supervise junior medical staff

### Experience/Knowledge

**Essential**

- Registrar or equivalent level training in Plastic surgery
- Clinical skills in plastic surgery (minimum 6 months)
- Research experience
- Teaching/ presentations experience
- Plastic surgery – knowledge of basic texts
- Understanding of own limits – aware of own limitations, consulting senior colleagues appropriately
- Understanding of the clinical issues in area of Paediatric Surgery
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Understanding of principles of clinical governance

### Academic/Professional qualification/Training

- Appropriate Registration with GMC by designated start date
- Basic medical qualifications – Higher degree in Medicine

- Child protection training Membership of RCS & PALS/APLS/NALS
