Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Engineering Technologist to join a large team in a busy medical equipment servicing unit.

This post is ideal for an experienced Technologist looking to progress their career in a challenging and busy environment. Alternatively we are looking for a Technologist seeking to improve their experience and capabilities.

This post will include activities, selection and evaluation, acceptance testing and installation, calibration, planned maintenance, repair, routine safety testing, decommissioning and disposal. These services are provided for a defined range of electro-mechanical medical equipment within the care of Clinical Engineering that are owned by or used by the Trust and certain organisations outside the Trust.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsible for the repair, maintenance and servicing of a defined range of medical equipment/devices, requiring a high degree of competence, experience and specialised knowledge. Please note we are also willing to consider candidates who don’t meet all the essential criteria as a progression against agreed milestones, this will be under Annex 21 basis as defined in the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of Employment. Measures including pay and milestones underpinning this appointment will be discussed with the successful candidate by the appointing manager. This will be face to face interviews only as we need to conduct practical tests as part of the interview process. Please ensure you can attend face to face before applying.

**Essential**

- Be able to work within broad occupational policies and establish how these should be interpreted for the Trust
- Full UK driving licence
- Compassionate – demonstrates a caring nature towards patients, colleagues and the public.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience working as a technologist.
- Experience in fault diagnosis.
- Specialist knowledge on the maintenance and repair of a range of medical devicess
- Use of Office and other equipment specific software packages.
- Disassembly and reassembly skills
- Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical electronic engineering
- Ability to use equipment management data bases

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and experience of working in a Health care setting
- Knowledge of MHRA Managing Medical Devices April 2015
- At least 2 years’ experience as a technologist

### Physical skills

**Essential**

- Keyboard skills
- Ability to lift items of equipment up to 15kg, following Trust manual handling policy and practices.
- Ability to work in small or awkward spaces; when installing or maintaining equipment
- Able to calibrate and test equipment with small margins of error
- Colour vision and good eyesight

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Good quality academic qualifications in engineering / technology; HNC/HND or equivalent + post-qualification training.
- Additional theoretical knowledge acquired through CPD (professional short courses, personal study, conferences)
- Working towards RCT registration

**Desirable**

- Honours degree in Clinical Technology/Electronics or equivalent
- Registered Clinical Technologist

### Analytical & Judgement Skills

**Essential**

- Interpretation of legislation/policy/complex test results where there is no precedent
- Analysis and interpretation of engineering test results.
- Investigate and manage causes of problems with users/ patients / equipment, escalating to managers if required
- Use of special computer packages.

### Communication and Relationship

**Essential**

- Able to communicate complex and varied information across professional boundaries to a range of staff both inside and outside the organisation.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Able to deal with complex and unpredictable situations.

### Planning & organisation skills

**Essential**

- Plan programmes of work within own service and other services, involving a wide range of other professionals.
- Work independently and under pressure, prioritising workloads .
