### Job overview

The postholder will lead the pre-registration midwifery portfolio, providing professional and educational leadership for student midwives across maternity services. They will work collaboratively with students, clinical teams, Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors and Higher Education Institutions to ensure safe, supportive and effective clinical learning environments.

Responsibilities include coordinating student placements, induction and learning opportunities; supporting students with learning, progression or wellbeing needs; and ensuring appropriate support and action plans are in place where concerns arise. The postholder will lead implementation of the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA), including preparation and ongoing development of Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors, and maintain oversight of SSSA compliance and capacity.

They will monitor placement quality, capacity and student experience, using feedback, audit and learning to support continuous improvement. The postholder will represent maternity at relevant education and HEI meetings, maintain awareness of national maternity and education priorities, and ensure these inform student learning. They will maintain a visible clinical presence and work closely with maternity education, governance and leadership teams.

### Main duties of the job

The Clinical Educator – Pre-registration Midwifery is responsible for leading and supporting the clinical learning environment for pre-registration student midwives across maternity services.

The postholder will work closely with students, Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors, clinical teams and Higher Education Institutions to ensure that placements are safe, supportive, inclusive and provide appropriate learning opportunities. The role includes supporting students with learning, progression or wellbeing needs, maintaining oversight of placement quality and capacity, and using student and supervisor feedback to support improvement.

The postholder will also support implementation of the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment, including the preparation and ongoing development of Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors, and will maintain oversight of SSSA compliance within maternity.

The role will maintain a visible clinical presence and provide a link between education, clinical practice, governance and quality improvement.

### Experience

**Essential**

- 3 years post-registration experience as a practising midwife
- Experience of working across multidisciplinary teams within maternity services
- Credible clinical role model committed to improving standards and midwifery care
- Evidence of leadership qualities
- Experience of contributing to service improvement, quality improvement, audit, governance or assurance work
- Experience of supporting staff through advice, education, facilitation or reflective discussion
- Experience of working with a degree of autonomy and managing competing priorities
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Knowledge of current HEI midwifery curriculum and expectations
- Evidence of current knowledge of the national maternity landscape, including key policy, safety, workforce and education priorities, and the ability to translate these into learning and practice.

**Desirable**

- Experience of presenting information clearly in reports, meetings or learning settings
- Experience of developing or delivering training
- Experience of contributing to policy, guideline or pathway development

### Qualifications and Professional Registration

**Essential**

- Registered Midwife with current NMC registration
- Degree in Midwifery or equivalent relevant professional qualification
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role
- Qualified NIPE practitioner or willing to undertake the qualification
- Teaching qualification – accredited mentorship module/SSSA qualification or relevant teaching experience
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education or willing to undertake
