### Main duties of the job

- The post holder will provide leadership to the Dental Nurse team on a daily basis, inspiring them with strong leadership, excellent clinical skills and a visible and exemplary commitment to patient-centeredness.
- The post holder will work collaboratively with the Lead Dental Nurse and the Matron to escalate department and staffing issues where appropriate
- The post holder will carry out clinical dental nursing on a minimum of two days per week, ensuring credibility with the nursing team and role modelling excellent clinical nursing skills.
- The post holder will line manage the Senior Dental Nurses and an agreed number of Dental Nurses within the Postgraduate nursing team.
- As well as line management of Dental Nurses, the post holder will work with closely with the Senior Dental Nurses to delegate a number of key operational tasks to the SDNs in the day-to-day operational management of clinical services
- The post holder will represent their department at nurse management meetings and the clinical governance group, and will be expected to take responsibly for delivering agreed actions with nursing teams
- The post holder will deputise for the Lead Dental Nurse in their absence

### Experience

- Significant experience working as a Band 5 senior dental nurse in a similar NHS setting
- Significant teaching/assessing experience
- Experience of mentoring/supervising /assessing students in practice
- Experience of planning and delivery of educational training programmes
- Awareness of current NHS and Education initiatives in Dental nursing
- Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance
- Knowledge of local, regional and national policies pertaining to practice experience
- Sound knowledge of the principles of Dental Nursing
- Sound knowledge of the GDC Standards for Education
- Ability to work as part of a team with a professional approach towards work and colleagues
- Evidence of knowledge and experience of HR processes and policies
- Evidence of service improvement
- Previous experience of working in a hospital setting
- Responsibility for clinical activities appropriate to department
- Responsibility for maintaining stock levels and ordering where appropriate
- Participation in the recruitment and selection of dental nurses

- Experience in delivery of Post Registration Qualifications for Dental Nurses

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.
- General Dental Council registration
- Teaching certificate – PGCE or Diploma in Education and Training (Minimum Level 3)
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent) /Willing to complete training to gain the qualification
- Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development
- Ability to deputies for the Lead Dental Nurse
- Knowledge of leadership models
- Knowledge of range of dental nursing procedures Acquired through training and experience

**Desirable**

- Post Qualification Certificate
- Level 4 in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
- Mentorship course or equivalent
- Experience of working in OMFS/Oral Surgery & Oral Medicine
