We have an exciting opportunity to join our expanding psychology pathway within the Severe Intestinal Failure Service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, to support delivery of a psychologically informed service for patients with intestinal failure. We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic and compassionate Practitioner Psychologist to be part of an expanding team of skilled and highly motivated multidisciplinary professionals who provide high quality care to people with intestinal failure. You will work across the pathway, with inpatients, outpatients, consult with the team and support the psychological approach of the wider service, alongside a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

You will also join the Psychological Services Team at UHCW, which delivers psychological care within the wider UHCW Trust. We are a welcoming team and the successful applicant will work collaboratively with psychological colleagues across UHCW and GEH.

We would welcome applications from Psychologists with an interest in supporting individuals with long term, complex physical health conditions and from Psychologists who are newly qualified and would take on this role as a preceptorship to an 8a.

### Main duties of the job

- To work as a Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist within the Severe Intestinal Failure (SIF) Psychology Team. To provide a psychological approach as part of an interdisciplinary team, which include Allied Health Professionals, Nursing and Medics, providing services to adults referred into the UHCW Severe Intestinal Failure (SIF) Service.
- To be responsible for managing a caseload and working with the wider multidisciplinary team to support the care needs of patients referred into SIF.
- To provide specialist evidenced-based psychological assessment and treatment of complex cases, requiring detailed analysis, formulation and interventions so as to maximise quality of life.
- To provide specialist advice and consultation to a range of multi-agency professionals and non-professional carers, and utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.
- To work autonomously within the professional guidelines and overall framework of the Trust and team’s policies and procedures.
- To follow defined care pathways and other relevant pathways as required.
- To assist in the quality and activity monitoring systems

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to patients referred to the Severe Intestinal Failure Psychology Service.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, training and consultation to members of the integrated teams, and across a wide range of agencies and settings where appropriate.
- Work as an effective member within the interdisciplinary team.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with various individuals and groups on complex and potentially stressful topics in a range of situations.
- Supervise and manage Trainee Clinical Psychologists, within the framework of team’s policies and procedures, when eligible.
- Utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and with other team members.
- ontribute to team meetings and effective operation of the team.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the principles of the safeguarding of vulnerable adult procedures and legislation in relation to the patient group.
- To liaise with the Service Lead, Clinical Lead, Multidisciplinary teams, Consultants and members of other agencies responsible for a patient’s care.
- Work closely and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team, consulting with colleagues and other professionals across health and social settings.
- Communicate effectively and persuasively in a range of professional settings to ensure that other care providers have a clear understanding of the patients’ psychological needs and the most evidence-based approach to treatment and/or management approach.
- Produce high quality verbal and written specialist psychological formulations and reports that aid evidence based clinical interventions for patients, carers and other professionals.
- To communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner to patients, families and carers, complex information concerning the assessments and treatment plans and provide specialist guidance as to optimal ways of managing, particularly in cases of cognitive impairment
- Use creative and flexible communication methods to engage patients with cognitive impairment or behavioural problems and their carer in the assessment and treatment process.

- - Skills in the use of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.

**Desirable**

- - Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non professional groups.
- Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to other team members and staff exposed to highly distressing situations.
- A commitment to the evaluation of services, enthusiasm for both multi-professional and uni professional audit, and a wish to continue to develop expertise in the service area

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- - Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/counselling/health psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and two or more distinct psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychology.

**Desirable**

- - Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialist assessment methods and therapeutic approaches in relation to physical illness and or disability

### Experience

**Essential**

- - Experience of working with a range of clients, presenting with a range of clinical severity and maintenance of professionalism in challenging circumstances.
- Experience of applying psychological theory and practice with patients living with acute and chronic health issues and other issues regarding adaptation to physical conditions.
- Experience of tailoring psychological assessment and intervention to individual needs.
- Experience of team working.
- Experience of applying psychology in different cultural contexts.

**Desirable**

- - Experience of working within an Acute hospital setting
- Experience of teaching, training and clinical supervision.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- - Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or recognised equivalent)
- Registered as a Clinical/ Counselling/Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

**Desirable**

- - Evidence of continuing professional development in the area of physical health
