We are delighted to be recruiting two fixed term,  full‑time Band 6 Clinical Coding Validators and Lead Analysts to join our well‑established and forward‑thinking Clinical Coding Team.

These roles are ideal for experienced, ACC‑qualified coders who are passionate about data quality, confident in coding across a wide range of specialties, and skilled in working collaboratively with clinicians to resolve documentation and coding queries.

### Main duties of the job

- Provide an efficient and high-quality clinical coding service by accurate and timely coding of complex case-mix inpatient Spells for all Trust Specialties
- Act as expert Clinical Coder by liaising with Clinicians and Specialty Leads for queries related to source documentation and to validate coding where expertise is required to maximise income
- To meet individual coding targets in productivity and accuracy to ensure that the team meets monthly reporting deadlines
- Provide specialist coding knowledge to less experienced staff

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Able to provide evidence of a maintained standard of 90% accuracy across all specialties.
- Able to provide evidence of maintained productivity levels that have met the needs of the current or previous clinical coding post.
- Profound knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- An excellent knowledge of human anatomy & physiology.
- A knowledge of NHS Information flows.
- Extensive knowledge of Clinical Coding rules and conventions
- Knowledge of Payment by Results framework
- Able to communicate errors and corrections effectively to promote improvement.
- Able to communicate effectively with peers areas of difficulty, able to raise concerns, listen effectively and appreciate constructive criticism.
- Identify and use the most effective means of communication methods, with a variety of health professionals including clinicians, nurses, general managers, AD’s and at times the Chief Operating officer.
- At least intermediate level skills in Trust standard PC software (Particularly Microsoft Excel, Word for Windows)
- Post holder must be computer literate as access to systems, e.g. PAS, Pathology, PACS are essential in the application of clinical codes: although the specific system training will be given.
- Ability to develop and deliver formal training packages
- Able to supervise, mentor and develop junior staff

**Desirable**

- Able to provide evidence of a maintained standard of 95% accuracy across all specialties.
- Able to demonstrate an extensive and thorough knowledge of Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology
- Able to present complex and technical clinical coding rules and standards to a non-coding, technical/professional audience.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Have extensive experience working as a clinical coder following foundation training.
- Experience of working within the NHS or other relevant Healthcare service

**Desirable**

- Experience of using encoding/Hospital Systems

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Good general education to GCSE level with Maths and English
- Relevant NVQ3 / A levels or equivalent. To have obtained a Pass in the National Clinical Coding Qualification ACC ( )
- Have NHS NHSCS) ( Service Classifications foundation course.
- Be able to provide evidence of attendance at a nationally approved Refreshe r Training Course within the last three years of employment.
- Be able to provide evidence of attendance on nationally approved Specialty Workshops.
- Ongoing relevant experience and development to degree equivalent level.

**Desirable**

- Degree in Sciences/Biology
