### Job overview

This is an office-based post within the Histopathology Department (located at the Cotman Centre), which forms part of the Cellular Pathology directorate. The department has a workload of around 83,000 patient requests per year. This presents an opportunity to be part of an excellent team working in a busy, modern, progressive hospital laboratory service.

Histopathology receives and processes patient samples to provide diagnostic reports to hospital clinicians and General Practitioners. This is a good opportunity to learn administrative work practices and work with a committed team of office, laboratory and consultant staff.

The service is currently moving towards a full digital pathology reporting.

### Main duties of the job

The role will provide an important supporting role to the medical secretaries and consultant pathologists. Your main duties will include; preparing reports and microscope slides for over 25 multidisciplinary team meetings, filing tasks, handling queries from service users, Histopathologists and lab staff, processing post and sending away referral and research work, some typing work and PC work.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Organising reports and retrieving slides for Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings for a range of specialisms within the trust.
- Liaising with members of staff from other departments and hospitals (via telephone, nhs.net and NNUH outlook).
- Entering patient data on the Pathology computer system.
- Assisting with the collection of data for reports.
- Sorting post, filing and scanning paper reports plus retrieving and filing reports and slides.
- Assisting with typing duties for macroscopic digital dictation (in-house training will be given).
- Assisting with laboratory administration duties, if required.
