The Experts at Hand initiative, from the Department for Education, brings speech and language therapists (SLTs) and occupational therapists (OTs) directly into mainstream schools and colleges to provide early Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support We are inviting applicants with experience in working alongside Speech and Language Therapists with children or young people with speech, language and communication needs to join our team as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. The role will involve working in Shropshire with children in early years and mainstream schools across the age range. The successful applicants will join a team of SLTs and OTs in delivering support to schools in line with the new Expert at Hand guidance. \[gov.uk\] There may also be opportunities to work in the core SLT service to strengthen your clinical experience and maintain/extend your wider clinical skills. As part of your personal statement in your application please tell us in no more than 100 words us how you have made a difference for a child with speech, language and communication needs and/or improved their family's lives. ### Main duties of the job - To implement, under the guidance of speech and language therapists, therapy programmes with children with speech, language and communication difficulties. - To support parents and educators to make changes to be confident in their knowledge and skills. - To make adaptations to therapy and training programmes to meet the needs of children and young people, their parents, carers and educators, and to escalate any required adaptations that are out of scope of this role to a speech and language therapist You will also join a wider team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists who work collaboratively and are committed to delivering NHS values and providing compassionate support to children and young people, parents, and one another. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please see the Job Description and Person Specification attached for further information on the role.
