We are looking for a Children's Speech and Language Therapist who wishes  to be part of a supportive community team  based in Nottinghamshire and is keen to develop skills in working with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)  in clinics, nursery/school settings and home environments.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

### Main duties of the job

To work  as part of a locality  team to support children, families and settings in a designated geographical area.

To assess, diagnose, design and deliver appropriate packages of care for children with a wide range of SLCN eg. speech and language difficulties, DLD, stammering, Autism.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist who wishes to develop skills in working with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)  in clinics, nursery/school settings and home environments.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service supports children with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and eating and drinking needs, across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County. The service provides a range of packages of care for children with speech and language difficulties, developmental language disorder, Autism, learning difficulties, physical difficulties, eating and drinking difficulties, voice disorders, hearing impairment  and disorders of fluency. The service aims to provide support to children in the most appropriate setting e.g. health, education, home.

We are a large department relative to other departments across the country. This means that there are frequent opportunities to develop skills,  and we have therapists who are able to specialise in clinical areas and share their knowledge/support  less experienced therapists.

We work in teams with a shared caseload. We actively support new staff to build up their confidence in managing cases,  allowing  the gradual build up of skills and experience over time.  This includes shadowing and CPD opportunities, and time to discuss cases whilst you develop your skills.

We would love to hear from you if you can or are keen to develop your skills to  –

- Assess, diagnose, design and deliver appropriate packages of care for  children with SLCN

- Work collaboratively with, and provide training and coaching for parents, education staff and other professionals, ensuring a well co-ordinated support  plan  for children who meet the criteria for speech and language therapy

-  Assist in the identification and management of children with SLCN  as part of the integrated  team and advise SLTAs

Essential criteria includes:

- Recognised Speech and Language Degree Qualification or equivalent/working towards

- An interest in and experience (which could be undergraduate) of working with children and young people with a wide range of SLCN and eating and drinking difficulties

- Experience (which could be undergraduate) of working in schools and/or pre-school settings with children with a variety of communication difficulties

- An understanding of the role of the Speech and Language Therapist in meeting the needs of children accessing a community clinic service and/or school/pre-school settings

- An interest or experience in multi disciplinary team working

- A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
