### Job overview

We are excited to offer highly motivated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapists the opportunity to join our friendly team! We would welcome applicants who are experienced as Band 6s, or Band 5s who are looking for development opportunities.

The service works with children from birth to 19yrs and consists of the following pathways:

- Early Years
- School age EHCN assessments
- Deafness
- Stammering
- Eating and Drinking Difficulties /Complex Special Needs

The post will involve working within the Early Years Team as well as carrying out school age EHCNAs, but there may be opportunities to work across other service areas. Successful applicants’ individual preferences will be considered.

### Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be enthusiastic about working in partnership with others including families and professionals to support children and young people in Croydon. The role involves assessment, diagnosis and delivering therapy to children with speech, language and communication needs, as well as training, coaching and support for key people in the child's life.

With the Croydon Children’s Speech and Language Therapy team, you will have access to the following support with your role and development:

- Regular 1:1 supervision with your line manager.
- Access to experienced specialists within the team who provide second opinions, training and support.
- An identified mentor / buddy who will be available to support you with any questions you may have and to help you settle in.
- Termly Reflective Practice sessions with the wider Allied Health Professionals within the organisation. These sessions have a focus on self-reflection with regards to your role.
- Termly Band 6 forums, with a focus on professional development.
- Regular team meetings with a focus on CPD and opportunities to discuss current matters with your colleagues.
- Opportunities to access a range of quality internal and external training courses in order to support your CPD.
- Opportunities to develop your leadership skills through contributing to Quality Improvement projects, working parties, informal support of team members and working alongside experienced colleagues.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification
- HCPC licence to practise
- Registered member of RCSLT
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses

**Desirable**

- Any as related to children

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant experience at undergraduate and post-graduate level
- Working with parents/carers/teachers in different settings
- Working within the National Curriculum and SEND procedures
- Multi-disciplinary working and skillsharing

**Desirable**

- Working with preschool/school aged children
- Working within a multi-cultural setting
- Working with children with special needs
- Working with a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

### Knowledge and skills

**Essential**

- Knowledge of managing a general paediatric caseload to a clinically competent standard (
- Knowledge of a range of intervention approaches with a paediatric caseload, including those used in education settings and when working with parents and other professionals
- Knowledge of Education System, acts and directives, including the Children & Families Act, National Curriculum, and the Code of Practice
- Knowledge of Makaton and other signing systems relevant to the clinical area
- Knowledge of safeguarding children & child protection

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of bilingualism and multicultural issues
- Knowledge of preventative approaches
- Knowledge of awareness of national policies and procedures in relation to working with preschool and school aged children
