An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our expanding team of nurses within the Children in Care (CIC) Service. We are looking for compassionate, motivated, and enthusiastic nurses who are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people in care.

The successful post holders will work closely with the Named Nurse for Children in Care and wider multidisciplinary health team to deliver a high-quality, evidence-based service that promotes, protects, and improves the health and wellbeing of Children in Care. The role includes undertaking statutory health assessments, identifying health needs, and supporting the delivery of holistic, child-centred care.

Working collaboratively with partner agencies and the wider children's workforce, the post holder will contribute to safeguarding, health promotion, and ensuring children and young people receive timely and appropriate health interventions.

### Main duties of the job

Establish clear and effective communication links with young people, parents/carers, social care staff and a range of other professionals from both voluntary and statutory organisations.

Listen and take into account sensitive issues and communicate these to appropriate persons/agencies ensuring that children and young people are protected and that disclosures are acted upon appropriately.

To keep accurate and up to date electronic and written records, provide written reports as requested by the Service Leads.

Utilise a range of communication methods with colleagues and managers to include electronic communication.

Assess, plan and implement interventions and programmes of care for young people within the care system, up to the age of 25 yrs.

Identify the relevant health and social issues within the specific cohort of young people leaving care.

Recognise indicators of child and adult abuse and initiate Safeguarding measures in accordance with recognised policies and procedures.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Strong working knowledge of Adult & Child safeguarding practice, legislation and policies and can demonstrate have they have used this to safeguard children
- Sound knowledge and understanding of current issues affecting children in care
- Understands impact of abuse on the health and wellbeing of the child and can demonstrate how this has influenced their practice

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant post-registration experience of working in a community setting.
- Experience of working in a health setting with children and young people who have experienced trauma and neglect
- Experience and understanding of child development and the lifelong impact of adverse childhood experiences
- Experience of health promotion, protection and improvement

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
- 1st level degree or demonstrate equivalent in experience and knowledge
- Teaching qualification or can demonstrate relevant experience

**Desirable**

- SCPHN/RHV qualification

### Analytical & Judgement Skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate how they are skilled in identifying and assessing risk
- Demonstrate how they use data and feedback to develop service
- Demonstrate their critical reasoning in practice
