We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our dynamic team as the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer. As a voting executive Board member, you will be responsible for professional nursing, midwifery, AHP’s, providing strategic leadership across these professions, encouraging innovation, creativity and strategic thinking about service provision.

As a key member of the executive team, you will share accountability for the achievement of the trust’s strategic and operational objectives, for setting and exemplifying the Trust’s values and standards and for ensuring that its obligations to internal and external stakeholders are understood and met. Placing our patients, relatives and carers at the heart of what we do, you will also ensure that equality and diversity is central to the patient experience.

### Main duties of the job

The CNMO accepts shared accountability for the achievement of the trust’s strategic and operational objectives, for setting and exemplifying the Trust’s values and standards and for ensuring that its obligations to internal and external stakeholders are understood and met.

They will work with the Trust Executive Team and the Trust Leadership Team (TLT) to ensure that patients, their relatives and carers have a positive experience when accessing and receiving care/services from this Trust; placing this is at the forefront of all strategic development, integration of services and improvement ensuring that equality and diversity is central to the patient experience.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Chief Nurse & Midwifery Officer

Provide strong, visible professional leadership to the nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce.

Lead the development and implementation of the Trust’s Strategies for Nursing, Midwifery and the Allied Health Professions.

Ensure the maintenance of professional standards of care within the NMC and HCPC Codes of Professional Practice and that the Trust carries out its responsibilities in full as determined under the A-EQUIP model and Professional Midwifery Advocates

Ensure robust systems and processes for revalidation for nursing workforce.

Create an environment in which clinical excellence, education, research and development, public perception and patient safety can flourish to meet the current challenges.

Represent the Trust at regional and national levels on professional nursing, midwifery and corporate issues.

Develop evidence-based clinical practice, multidisciplinary integrated care pathways, clinical audit and clinical risk management within the Trust.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant previous nursing / midwifery leadership with at least 12 months at very senior/executive level or equivalent, ideally within an NHS Trust or policy /professional body.
- Extensive experience of dealing with regulatory issues (e.g. CQC)
- Demonstrable evidence of working effectively at a corporate level.
- Track record of achieving continuous quality, and patient experience improvements.
- Track record of leading and managing large scale change or service redesign that results in improved patient outcomes.
- Extensive experience of dealing with professional Nursing and Midwifery issues.
- Experience of audit and research, including interpretation and supporting others in participation

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Extensive knowledge of Clinical Quality and Safety methodologies
- Detailed knowledge of corporate risk management systems and processes.
- Extensive knowledge of clinical and Corporate Governance frameworks, legislation and best practice
- Understanding of public and patient involvement policy.
- Excellent understanding of CQC fundamental standards of care
- Demonstrable understanding of the national strategic context and governance agenda as set by the regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g. Monitor and CQC).

### Education and Training

**Essential**

- Registered general nurse / general midwife
- Master’s degree or equivalent level of intellectual ability
- Additional post graduate or professional qualification with demonstrable senior level experience
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
