Alder Hey has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Clinical Perfusionist to join a major Paediatric Cardiac Centre and provide strong and dynamic Leadership within Perfusion, alongside our team of Cardiac Surgeons and supporting departments.

The Chief Clinical Perfusionist will provides strong organisational leadership, clinical and professional perfusion services to the multi-disciplinary team. The individual will hold Paediatric experience and ensure continuity of the perfusion service through all clinical areas and that all policies, protocols and clinical practices are maintained and adhered to. They will develop perfusion services and create a clear strategy and vision for the future, aligned with the Trust 2030 vision. They will manage delegated resources efficiently within devolved financial responsibilities as part of the Trust’s financial standard financial instructions.

The Chief Clinical Perfusionist will have demonstrable Paediatric experience and will provide organisational leadership, clinical and professional perfusion services to the multi-disciplinary team. They will ensure continuity of the perfusion service through all clinical areas and that all policies, protocols and clinical practices are maintained and adhered to. They will develop perfusion services and create a clear strategy and vision for the future aligned with the Trust 2030 vision. Manage delegated resources efficiently within devolved financial responsibilities as part of the Trust’s financial standard financial instructions.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsible for the safe delivery of cardiopulmonary bypass, as outlined in the Department of Health’s ‘Guide to Good Practice in Clinical Perfusion’ using specialised, unique and highly complex perfusion techniques.

Ensure continuity of perfusion service to ensure all service commitments are met within the capacity of the team. This involves being responsible for the perfusion rota covering all theatre sessions, management and allocation of planned perfusion cases and adjusting allocation of workload/rota to manage emergency cases.  The post holder is also responsible for managing a 24/7 on-call rota within Trust e-roster System.

Ensure perfusion staff complies with necessary policies, protocols and clinical practices, within the Trust clinical governance standards.

To use highly complex specialised knowledge which require sound clinical judgements/decision making for highly complex and unique  cases and advise others in the absence of the full clinical picture.

Possess excellent reasoning skills and sound judgement in identifying problems generating solutions and reaching reasoned conclusions . As expert clinical perfusion scientists, it is essential that strong relationships are formed with all members of the multidisciplinary team especially consultant cardiac surgeons.

As perfusion department line manager, co-ordinate all technical and administrative duties, including all HR & financial elements on a daily basis.

### Person Specification

**Essential**

- Fully accredited by SOPGBI
- Full Registration Awarded by COPGBI
- BSc in Perfusion Sciences or equivalent experience
- Demonstrable paediatric clinical perfusion experience.
- Competent in ECMO techniques.

**Desirable**

- MSc in Perfusion Sciences
- Participation in Audit
- Presentation at MDT, M&M and Audit Meetings
