Cellular Pathology is a large, busy and specialist service covering Histopathology, Immunohistochemistry, Non-Gynae Cytology, SIHMDS, Mortuary services, the Cellular Pathology Genomic Centre and Translational Research. As Service Manager, you will help ensure these services run safely, smoothly and effectively, supporting timely, high-quality diagnoses for patients and clinical teams.

You will work as part of the Cellular Pathology Clinical Management Team, collaborating with scientific, technical, medical and operational colleagues. This is a role where you can make a real difference by supporting staff, improving service delivery, guiding teams through change and shaping the future of the department.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide operational leadership for the Cellular Pathology service within Laboratory Medicine. They will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the service, ensuring high quality diagnostic provision, strong operational performance, and compliance with all relevant regulatory, accreditation and governance requirements.

Working as part of the service leadership team, the post holder will lead service planning, workforce management, performance improvement, financial management and service development across Cellular Pathology. They will work closely with clinical, scientific and managerial colleagues to support delivery of strategic objectives, improve turnaround times and patient pathways, maintain quality standards, and ensure the service is responsive to organisational and external requirements. The role will also contribute to wider Laboratory Medicine objectives, including transformation, productivity, digital development, and cross service working.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Clear evidence of working in Cellular Pathology, with up to date knowledge of Cellular Pathology services and laboratory processes

### Knowledge and experience

**Desirable**

- Demonstrable knowledge of national cancer waiting time standards and the role of Cellular Pathology in supporting cancer pathways, including Faster Diagnosis, 31 day and 62 day standards

### Training and qualifications

**Essential**

- MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Science, Biomedical Science, or related subject, or equivalent experience in a Cellular Pathology setting
- HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
- Postgraduate Management Qualification or equivalent experience
- Evidence of Cellular Pathology training and or specialist knowledge relevant to the service
