### Job overview

The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role within the multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Team, delivering expert clinical care, education, and holistic support to patients diagnosed with lung cancer.

This position focuses on providing high-quality, patient-centred care, ensuring that individuals and their families are supported throughout their cancer journey. The CNS is responsible for coordinating and managing complex care needs across all stages of the patient pathway — from diagnosis, through treatment, and into survivorship or palliative care where appropriate.

Working collaboratively with the wider healthcare team, the CNS acts as a key point of contact, advocate, and specialist resource, helping to ensure timely access to services, continuity of care, and the best possible patient experience and outcomes.

### Main duties of the job

In this rewarding role, you will

- Act as a key worker; delivering evidence based, personalised care through holistic assessment, care planning and evaluation of care for patients diagnosed with lung cancer, through treatment and follow up. This might be via a clinic, inpatient or remote follow up setting.
- To identify and support patients who are vulnerable. Enabling them to have a smooth journey through the lung cancer pathway.
- To work at an enhanced level to plan and provide clinical care and psychological support to patients with a cancer diagnosis who have complex needs.
- To provide holistic care for patients at all stages of their cancer pathway, delivering a high standard of person-centred care, supporting a culture of supported self-management.
- To provide specialised advice to patients and their carers in relation to a cancer diagnosis and its treatment.

### Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Thorough up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within the specialty area
- Evidence of relevant clinical experience at Band 5 in Oncology or respiratory gained in the NHS

**Desirable**

- Demonstrates knowledge of cancer pathways and targets

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Current NMC registration
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing professional development
- Diploma/Degree in relevant area or evidence of study to that level

**Desirable**

- Post registration training preferably in cancer/palliative care.
