Successful candidates will undertake a fully funded one-year training programme with the University of Northampton, delivered via a hybrid model (combining in-person and online learning). Travel expenses for required university attendance will be supported. Working arrangements include a mix of school-based work, office/base working, and home working. The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is an early intervention service supporting children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs, including anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation, and sleep difficulties. MHST works closely with Nottinghamshire CAMHS and education settings to deliver both direct interventions and a whole-school approach, promoting positive mental health and resilience. This role includes completing a Postgraduate Diploma (CYP IAPT) in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatments. Please note, this vacancy may close early due to high demand. ### Main duties of the job As a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP), you will work within a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) delivering early intervention support to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, and behavioural challenges. Under supervision, you will develop skills in assessing and delivering evidence-based interventions, mainly through guided self-help, within educational settings. You will manage a defined caseload, ensuring care is outcome-focused and responsive to individual need. You will work closely with schools, including Senior Mental Health Leads and staff, to promote a whole-school approach to mental health, providing advice, consultation, and support to improve understanding and wellbeing. The role involves collaborative working with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure coordinated care, including supporting onward referrals to specialist services where required. You will contribute to workshops, drop-ins, and service feedback, supporting early intervention and access to care. You will complete a Postgraduate Diploma (CYP IAPT), applying learning in practice alongside regular supervision. You will also maintain accurate records, support data collection, and follow Trust policies, including safeguarding and confidentiality. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please see attached Job description for further details of the role. The post-holder will work a trainee as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, high-quality; brief outcome focused evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties including anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties within a school setting. The post-holder will work with children, Young People and Families with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary. The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, under supervision, high quality,  outcome-informed/ focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing, mild to moderate anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties. The post-holder will also oversee elements of participation. This includes engaging all service users in various ways to gain feedback, participate in shaping services and running appropriate participation  groups within the services. The post holder will be required to be creative, flexible, adaptable, professional and motivated in all aspects of their role, both in clinical delivery and within the development of the service provision. Where appropriate to provide support for the work of other members of the multidisciplinary team and signpost children, young people and families to appropriate support. There is also a role for the potholder to promote the whole school approach to mental health and support teaching staff wellbeing. This is a fixed term post for one year, with the intention that on completion applicants will be able to apply for qualified EMHP posts available within the service once the course is complete. To work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team to enhance the mental and emotional well-being of children and young people within Nottinghamshire. A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010. Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service.
