### JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will be part of the Intellectual Disability Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS ID) team providing community based specialist, multidisciplinary and therapeutic interventions for children and young people with intellectual disability and co-morbid mental health problems or complex behavioural difficulties. The primary focus of the work will be early intervention and community engagement, and also working across IDCAMHS as required.

### KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the supervision and guidance of a senior practitioner and alongside children with disability services, the post holder will:

- Work with multidisciplinary team members to assist in the design, organisation and running of parent training groups;

- Support parents to manage their children’s behaviour by providing specific information and advice about positive behaviour approaches and help them to manage common problems such as sleep difficulties, by designing and implementing specific and individualised sleep programmes;

The post holder will work as a dedicated member of the team using specific and practical strategies and therapeutic skills to support the provision of flexible, child-centred interventions. The service will be flexible and responsive to the needs of children, young people and families; providing support when and where required which will often be community-based and sometimes outside typical working hours.

All work will be under the guidance of CAMHS practitioners and the clinical lead for the service.

### CLINICAL / EDUCATIONAL

To work directly and engage with children and young people with intellectual disability and mental health and complex behaviour problems, and their parents / carers or others who support them e.g. short break providers.

To assist CAMHS practitioners / senior clinicians undertake assessments of the children and young people and families who present to the service, by carrying out independent observations of children in various settings and reporting on these observations back to the team, and by providing individualised child-orientated activities.

To undertake specific assessments in conjunction with a CAMHS practitioner as appropriate, i.e. Sleep Scotland; and to design individualised intervention programmes under the supervision of a CAMHS practitioner.

To support parents / carers to implement specific and individualised behavioural or communication strategies designed in conjunction with CAMHS practitioners.

To support the CAMHS ID service and practitioners by enabling children and young people to attend appointments e.g. hospital appointments / GP visits.

To design, make and implement individualised tools / materials e.g. visual schedules, reward charts, communication cards, social stores etc. for children and young people in collaboration with CAMHS ID practitioners.

To provide parent/carers with information and advice regarding specific interventions e.g. PECS / Sleep Scotland.

To support other agencies, such as schools / short break facilities, to introduce specific and individualised strategies to support the child and young person in that setting.

To design and facilitate parent workshops under the supervision of an IDCAMHS Practitioner for those whose children / young people have an intellectual disability and additional mental health problem e.g. parent sleep workshop.

To attend / contribute to team meetings about children and young people and minute / chair when required.

To maintain accurate and concise records of all patient contact and related activity.

To report back on delegated work to the Line Manager in the agreed timescale.

To participate in multidisciplinary planning and review meetings/discussions as required and requested by the Line Manager.

To communicate clearly and work effectively with the Line Manager and the multidisciplinary team.

To participate fully in team activities and team development.

To actively contribute to and fully participate in service improvements, initiatives and developments under the direction of Line Manager.

To participate fully in supervision and training as required.

To contribute to the development of newly employed assistant practitioners by demonstrating own duties e.g. making schedules, worksheets, visuals etc.

To be directly accountable to the senior CAMHS practitioner responsible for managing the service.

To report all safeguarding concerns or any other risk issues identified during contact with children / young people and their families without delay.

To assist with making referrals to other services in relation to the child / young person’s emotional, social and personal development.

To efficiency, effectively and safely manage and prioritise work load under the supervision and direction of Line Manager.

To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures e.g. complaints, raising concerns, child protection/safeguarding, confidentiality, record keeping, data protection, absenteeism, infection control and prevention, health and safety, etc.

To undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager
