This is an exciting opportunity for a registered clinician to become part of the Teeswide CAMHS crisis team. The post is for a band 6 clinician (Fixed term- 12 months) who has a keen interest in children's mental health and is able to work in a fast paced but rewarding service. The post is to work as an autonomous clinician carrying out crisis assessments and being able to formulate plans for young people and their carers during times of distress.

The crisis team is a 24 hour service that caters for children and young people up to the age of 18 living in the Teesside area and offers rapid assessment of mental health and emotional needs for children in crisis.

Candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying.

### Main duties of the job

The main duties involve assessment of mental health and emotional needs of children who present in crisis. The clinician needs to be able to carry out thorough risk assessments and be able to formulate safety plans with children and their carers during times of distress.

You will offer telephone support to children, young people, carers and other professionals who need advice and guidance around emotional distress.

The successful applicant will complete short term interventions around risk management and monitoring of mental state with a view to maintaining young people safely in the community wherever possible.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post requires the successful candidate to work shifts over a 7 day period - both days and night duties.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be able to communicate effectively with others. You should demonstrate good leadership skills to be able to coordinate the day to day running of a shift.

You require a good understanding of children's mental health and emotional wellbeing needs and should work well with partner agencies with an understanding of how services link together to meet the needs of children and young people.

### knowledge

**Essential**

- Demonstrable knowledge to post-graduate level of evidence-based practice in caring for children and young people in the designated field
- Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act)
- Care Programme Approach and its application in practice
- Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
- Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
- Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
- Research and development methodology
- Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment

- The Trust’s Quality Improvement System (QIS)

### Experience

**Essential**

- Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
- Provide clinical supervision
- Working with young people and families
- Quality improvement activities

- Leadership or management experience
- Significant experience working with children and young people with mental ill health in a community setting
- Mentoring students on practice placement experience

### Qualification

**Essential**

- Current professional registration with appropriate professional body
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area (within agreed timescale)
- Depending on work area, recognised sign-off mentor (or equivalent) or must be achieved within agreed timescale
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
- 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework (at the point of application)

**Desirable**

- Leadership or management qualification
- CAMHS Degree
- Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice as appropriate to own profession
- Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy e.g. family therapy, CBT etc
- Recognised training in Facilitation of Parenting Groups
