### Job overview

The work of the Consortium aims to generate new treatments and technologies that will be  available on the NHS to help brain cancer patients live longer with better quality of life. To do this, the Consortium will work with patients, charities and patient representative groups to ensure that its research benefits everyone.  To ensure that the patient voice is heard in everything the Consortium does, it has a dedicated Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E) working group. This group oversees all PPI/E activities of the Consortium including ensuring that all clinical trials are designed with the patient in mind, trials are accessible and available to patients across the country, material and information about the Consortium is communicated in appropriate language and formats. To organise this group and all associated PPI/E activities, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E) Coordinator to work within the Consortium. The role will facilitate patient and public involvement and engagement in this ambitious programme of work.

The ideal candidate will have professional experience of patient, public and community involvement and engagement in research setting and of communicating with members of the public from a wide range of backgrounds and variety of characteristics. A working knowledge of the benefits, issues and initiatives related to PPI/E in research is essential. Experience of working in cancer or brain tumour research will be desirable. The post holder will always work with a high degree of discretion and initiative, respecting confidentiality of information.

- Develop a PPI/E action plan in collaboration with the Consortium PPI/E Lead(s), Consortium Programme Manager and Community Engagement Lead where appropriate.
- Support and coordinate PPI/E plans in Consortium activities.
- Support and work with the Consortium PPI/E Lead(s), Consortium Programme Manager and Communication Officer with other activities such as developing lay material about the Consortium, developing communication material, contributing to the new Consortium website development, organizing virtual or in-person workshops or other activities.
- Coordinate and manage the Cancer Patients’ Voice digital platform Consortium pages, uploading opportunities such as projects, events, blogs, discussions, and groups.
- Support and work with the Consortium PPI/E Lead(s), Consortium Programme Manager and Communication Officer to arrange activities as part of the face to face Consortium Assembly meetings.
- Facilitate the inclusion of PPI/E in all future trials and work packages developed by the Consortium by working with the relevant work package leads.

## Person Specification

### Experience & Knowledge

**Essential**

- Experience of patient, public, community and other stakeholder engagement in research setting at a level suitable to facilitate credibility and positive relations with staff, patients, members of the public and communities
- Experience of working in research within an academic, healthcare, research charity or similar environment
- A working knowledge of the benefits, issues and initiatives related to Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E)
- Experience of engaging with diverse patients, carers and communities in a professional capacity, and understanding of their dynamics, needs and challenges
- Experience of managing a website or digital platform
- Experience of using information technology solutions to produce reports, create and maintain databases, prepare presentations, and efficiently provide information
- Experience in performing data quality reviews and providing feedback and solutions to senior management
- Experience of writing high quality reports and presenting results of work to senior colleagues and management

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in cancer or brain tumour research will be desirable.
- Experience of writing blogs in lay format, translating academic / research work into lay language
- Experience of using social media in a professional capacity
- A working knowledge of Data Protection legislation

- Self-motivated, with a track record of working successfully on own initiative, as well as part of a team and larger organisation
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with a proven ability to coordinate and deliver projects with a PPI/E agenda
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of groups and colleagues and translate academic / research language into lay language
