### Job overview

The role of the Bladder and Renal CNS is to provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to patients with bladder and renal cancer. They will facilitate high quality, personalised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work alongside the Consultant Urologist in supporting patients referred via two-week rule with suspected bladder or renal cancer.

### Main duties of the job

The nurse specialist is an experienced registered nurse with the necessary skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner and as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team within Urology to provide the highest possible standards of care for patients with urological disease. This will involve triaging new patients through investigations to a diagnosis whereby the patient will either be discharged into the community or referred on to the bladder and renal cancer CNS.

The CNS will develop new areas of practice, with nursing and consultant staff, ensuring the Trust’s quality standards is met. They will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that high quality patient care is maintained.

The post holder will work in conjunction with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists and provide advanced nursing care to patients with bladder and renal cancers by co-ordinating the patient journey.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure within a multi-disciplinary team and manage complex and emotionally challenging situations

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Up-to-date knowledge of national and local developments in health and social care and local data, with awareness of clinical governance and risk management requirements.
- Wider understanding of cancer related issues i.e. Cancer Reform Strategy, NICE Implementation, Peer review measures, HNAs, end of treatment summaries, health and well-being

**Desirable**

- Up-to-date, in-depth knowledge of urological conditions, diseases, and treatments, including relevant procedures and investigations within this setting.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant relevant experience within an oncology and/or urology setting, with evidence of practice at Band 6 or Band 7 level
- Demonstrate experience of involvement in audit and research, with evidence of contributing to improvements in patient experience.

**Desirable**

- Experience of delivering urological nurse-led services and providing care within a cancer nursing setting.
- Experience in quality assurance, service development and improvement projects

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse and Course relating to urology practice
- Teaching Qualification - ENB998 or Mentorship Module

**Desirable**

- Evidence of completion of a management or leadership course and possession of an IR(ME)R certificate
